Hack the iPhone to Land a Job at Apple

September 2, 2011 — by Simon Ng4

iphone startup logoNicholas Allegra, otherwise known as comex, is the boy genius behind the web-based iOS hacker app JailbreakMe. Plenty of iOS jailbreaks exist, such as redsn0w and Blackra1n, but none are as seamlessly presented to the public via an easily-accessible website like the one devised by Allegra/comex. The underground achievement of JailbreakMe and JailbreakMe 2.0 is a testament to the ingenious implications of cloud computing; simplicity, user-friendliness, and software immortality.

It’s also what landed Allegra an internship with Apple Computer.

Well you may know that iOS 5 beta 3 is already out for developers, so has the iPhone Dev Team clinched on to the uphill task by launching the lastest build of Redsn0w jailbreak software – version 0.9.8 beta 2 – that has the ability to support tethered jailbreaking on iOS 5 beta 3 running on any iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 [GSM/CDMA] and the original first-gen iPad (and iPod touch too).

Previously we posted the step-by-step guide for jailbreaking iOS 4.3.3 using JailbreakMe 3.0. Unfortunately JailbreakMe doesn’t support jailbreaking on iOS 5.

Tutorial: How To Jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 for iPhone Using Redsn0w

May 7, 2011 — by Simon Ng18

A few hours ago, the iPhone Dev team released an update for redsn0w. You can now jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 for most iOS devices including iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Most importantly, it supports untethered jailbreak.

As usual, we’ll walk you through the whole jailbreak process with this tutorial post. But before we begin, let us highlight several points:

  • This guide is intended to jailbreaking iPhone 4 and 3GS running iOS 4.3.3. But it should also work for iPad (1st generation) and iPod touch (3G/4G). Just make sure you download the correct firmware.
  • If you depend on ultrasn0w unlocking, please stay away from jailbreaking with redsn0w. You should use PwnageTool instead that lets you create a custom IPSW while preserving the baseband version. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, just stay with your current iOS version. Don’t upgrade to 4.3.3, otherwise, you’ll lose the unlock.
  • Make sure you use iTunes 10.2 or up for the jailbreak. As usual, backup all your contacts, sms, photos, etc via iTunes before jailbreaking.
  • Disclaimer: Jailbreaking may void your warranty of iPhone. Again, jailbreak it at your own risk. There is no guarantee that this guide works on all iPhone devices.

Okay, let’s get started.

Ultrasn0w Unlock for iOS 4.3.1 Released by Dev-Team

April 10, 2011 — by Megha Bassi19

ultrasn0w-121-to-unlock-ios-4-3-1-3.png

Ultrasn0w 121 to unlock ios 4 3 1 22After the Dev-Team had released the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 on all iOS devices from iPhone to iPad(except iPad 2) their next objective was to update Ultrasn0w to work on iOS 4.3.1. They have finally achieved it, and after final testing Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 is now live in Cydia for us to download.

If you own an iPhone 4 or iPhone 3G/3GS that is not factory unlocked, you can install Ultrasn0w to use it with any carrier. The only requirement is an iPhone running jailbroken iOS 4.3.1.

iPhone 4 users must take extra care while updating to iOS 4.3.1 as they need to prevent the baseband from upgrading. This update only brings iOS 4.3.1 support to basebands which could be unlocked earlier. So even now, only baseband version 01.59.00 can be unlocked on iPhone 4.

How to Jailbreak iPhone and iPad on iOS 4.3.1 using PwnageTool for Mac

April 8, 2011 — by Megha Bassi2

pwnagetool-warning-screen.png

The Dev-Team has already released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad1 and AppleTV too. We have already shared a tutorial to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 using Redsn0w on Windows or Mac.

This guide, will show you how to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 using PwnageTool 4.3. This will only work on Macs. Windows users must use Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze. Here’s why you should use PwnageTool:

  • If you use Ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone 4, it is important that you do not upgrade your baseband while updating the iOS firmware version to 4.3.1. PwnageTool creates a custom IPSW which will preserve your baseband at 1.59.00 during update.
  • If you want to jailbreak Apple TV 2G, then this is the only tool that you can use.

Find the complete walkthrough with screenshots after the break.
