As of today, nearly 1 billion iPhone applications have been downloaded from App Store. That’s really amazing. To celebrate this significant milestone, Apple launches a countdown to 1 billion event that it will give away prizes including a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule, and a MacBook Pro.

In mid-Jan, I reported that App Store already hosted 15,000 iPhone applications and achieved 500 million download milestone. As of today, according to 148Apps.com, there are over 26,000 iPhone application available in App Store and the number is still counting.

Apple today announced at its homepage that it has reached another milestone for App Store — more than 500 million iPhone applications are downloaded. That’s incredible. Since the debut of App Store in early Jul, it only took Apple 7 months to reach such an amazing milestone.
