Jailbroken users will hardly see Cydia Substrate getting updated unless a new jailbreak utility come out. Saurik tends to update it so that developers can release a new version to their jailbreak tweaks that support the new jailbroken firmware. Today was one of the many exceptions, due to bugs report and such, Cydia Substrate has been updated to version 0.9.6110.
Specifically, the update brings fixes for corrupt extensions, often used by the developer for obfuscation purposes. In previous versions, Saurik made an attempt to have Cydia detects whether the upcoming tweaks will cause crashing or not, as a result, Cydia Substrate ending crashing itself.
0.9.6110 fixes an issue where extension [sic] that are corrupt (often on purpose by the developer for obfuscation purposes :/) cause Substrate’s attempt to detect whether the extension will cause the process to crash to actually just cause Substrate to crash :/. (In addition to all of the numerous improvements I make every time I cut a new release).
By upgrading to the latest version of Cydia Substrate, users ensure that some, if not, most reported bugs has been fixed and sometimes it’s also good for security purposes as well as the functionality of other tweaks. If you haven’t got the update yet, go on Cydia now and you should be prompted with an upgrade popup. In case, it doesn’t show, tap the Changes tab and refresh Cydia.
