QUEST: Complete Your Tasks Like You’re Playing A Game

May 12, 2015 — by Adeel Qayum1

Productivity apps are always welcomed with open arms by iPhone users. App developers look to create new ways to assist users in managing their tasks, and remembering things we’re prone to forget now and then.

As a result, we have an array of task managers and to-do apps offering calendar and email integration, rewards for task completion, and other things to motivate you to get things done.

But QUEST is a newly released app in this genre that does things quite differently. It is actually crossed with a game. The user can create lists, and tasks will be listed as ‘quests’ and the user reaches a higher level upon completing a particular task. The app is geared towards users who are motivated by receiving rewards.

How to use QUEST for iOS

QUEST doesn’t have social integration and you are the only player in this app, so you do not need to sign up for any account to use it.

The majority of the app’s functions are compatible with gestures; you can swipe a particular task towards the left to delete it, add a new task by swiping down, create a new list category by swiping down on a list name, and swipe towards right to mark a task as done.

To earn a reward, you have to complete a task before you mark it as complete. You earn a gem/jewel on task completion and by collecting more of these, you level up. The app features sounds and animations that make it appear like an arcade style game.

However, it doesn’t let you add time or date to your pending tasks, which means there is no clock ticking to remind you that you need to get things done. The absence of this feature is a downright surprise as every to-do-list app has a reminder feature.

That said, tasks can be rearranged through drag-and-drop functionality.

Final thoughts

The rewards function can give some individuals a sense of achievement as they level up. It may be possible that the developer is targeting gamers, or perhaps levels would just make one stick with the app; either way, it has a fun interface you might get hooked to.

You can download QUEST for $1.99 from the App Store. It has been optimized for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Let us know if you give it a try and feel free to leave comments.
