Acies is an elegant Winterboard theme for iOS 7

January 25, 2014 — by Xin Chan0

Acies is an new Winterboard theme for iOS 7 developed by well-known talented designer decke (@deckedsg on Twitter).

The theme is an icon set only when one main package to be activated in Winterboard. The icons redesigned on 70 icon for all stock iOS apps and some third party app icons. The icons are designed in very detail, some are really closed to the original icon of certain apps like iOS Photos App but retouched with a feeling to me that it is deemed to be originally coming with iOS 7. Simply to say, the icons looks flat, colorful and sleek.

Like what I mentioned in my previous reviews, or from screenshots that you might have seen on my Twitter, I have quite a number of apps that are not popular or country specific. The icons for these apps are really “iOS 7” inspired in the sense that I feel weird if I do not use themes that are still with iOS 6 based designs. With Acies, this worry goes to zero level as it integrates very well into stock iOS 7 as a whole.

Recently I have been very crazy in looking at new themes for iOS 7 such as Space Blueberry, Zanilla 2, Better 7, and of course Aura that I reviewed a few days ago. For the first three of the mentioned, they are also flat in nature and they all look good on my device as I really like the flat idea since iOS 7 came out. Beside, I have also installed flat icon packages on my Nexus 7 for similar experience across iOS and Android devices.

But the key point is, most of the icons look too cute. iPhone 5s is a premium device and those themes seem not fitting of how it should show off in reality. I would say Acies certainly do not lose your expensive phones premium look but adds value to it.

Further, if you heard about IconOmatic, this is something that juice up Acies. It adds blurry shadow to each icon at the bottom which looks very soft and pleasant for the themed icons.  But due to the reason that I need responsiveness of loading up folders and speed of the device, I did not enable it. Anyway, this is something to trade-off between.

Acies will go live in Cydia’s ZodTTD & MacCiti Repo on Friday 24th at 11 PST for $1.29 (and likely to be up already as this post goes). Per decke’s email for pre-release and review, there will be more icons coming up in future updates but if you want some specific app to be themed, you can make on the theme forum page on Modmyi here.
