I still have my hangover with Bitstrips’ comics when I saw my Facebook feed full of caricatures. I got curious how the heck my friends created them, and so I found MomentCam. Snap a selfie shot and design your own cartoon with this app, and you’ll surely find ways to tease your friends with its funny graphics and backgrounds.
What’s the app?
China-based developer Hightalk Software Corp. brings us MomentCam iPhone app, allowing users to turn raw photos into cartoons with funny actions and backgrounds. Snap a photo, and freely create a moment of humor, wit and life at its best.
How does it work?
You don’t have to be Will Eisner or Chuck Jones to create a prestigious piece of cartoon art. MomentCam has default designs and backgrounds (150 cartoons) you can choose from.
Once you launch the app, you’ll be prompted to take a photo of yourself (using the front camera or ask someone to take a picture of you) with a precise angle of the face within the app, and it also provides a quick guide on how to do it.
In a few seconds, MomentCam will turn the raw image into a cartoon where you can edit your face, hairstyle, glasses, eyebrow and background.
It’s easy to use; the navigation and interface comes with a vintage flare, complementing the caricatures and designs. Take it to the next level and share them over to WeChat, Moments, Sina Weibo and Tencent Weibo. As of this moment, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks are not yet integrated for direct sharing. Moreover, you can save the final cartoon in your Camera roll.
[Quick tip: Repeatedly upload the headshot, and the app will give you random cartoon and design you can customise.]
Is it noteworthy?
MomentCam is certainly a noteworthy app for keeps. While the concept is entirely not new to us, the cartoons and designs are beautiful and well drawn by a pro. Find the real you or create a new you with MomentCam’s designs. Reinvent yourself and add a picture of your dream guy or your dad (included in the designs) and show it to your friends.
Hopefully, the developer will integrate the popular social networks for direct sharing and uploading. He should add more designs and custom body figures, clothes and detailed features of a human body. I cannot also find the Settings button on the navigation.
Generally, the app needs more improvement on detailed designs, but if I were to rate it, I’ll give it 4 stars.
MomentCam for iPhone is available via iTunes direct link for free.
