Quite frankly, word games are not for everyone, and not everyone who installs them on their iOS devices would take time to play until wee hours. But I believe you are a genius and that they will benefit you during slack hours.
Let these games squeeze the analytical and intuitive sides of your brain. Have you ever played The New York Times crossword puzzle or Advanced Sudoku game? These games might compel you to bang your head against the wall. But I’m sure you’re smarter than the average Joe, and you won’t do it.
Are you ready to unbox each game?

Battle of Words
Michal Papura’s Battle of Words gained a spot on “What’s Hot” category on App Store. This is an addicting word game app to play with friends and family.
This is one of the best apps I’ve ever used for meetings and gatherings. It’s a great icebreaker.
Play this awesome app with friends or colleagues, grouping them in two’s. The concept of the game is to guess the taboo word shown on the screen while the clue giver of each group describes it to the team without using the list of forbidden words displayed.
The clue giver must think of other ways to describe the word to score for the team.
Battle of Words is a universal app worth $0.99. Download it via direct iTunes link.
I found another mind-boggling word game with in-app purchases.
The concept of Trivial is a Q&A word game that requires players to answer tough questions in multiple choices to win a score.
It’s actually a social game where players can contend against virtual foes, whether random or from Facebook friends. The goal is to get high score, get medals, and challenge them to epic battle of wits. Questions vary from movies, books, and some geek stuffs. I know you can answer them. Add me if you want to play.
Trivial is available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch for $2.99. Download it via direct iTunes link.
7 Little Words
7 Little Words revives your fondness to crossword puzzles, anagrams, and word finds. This app consists of bite-sized puzzles that contain 7 clues, 7 mystery words, and 20 letter groups.
You better guess them correctly or else! Or else you’re stuck (unless you want to get hints). So what’s the secret?
Well, it requires brainiacs to score and guess the 7 clues correctly. It’s quite challenging to form the correct words from the two to three letters arranged by 20’s. But players can shuffle them until they figure out the correct words.
And if you don’t want to crack your head, you can use the hint feature 15 times for free. There’s an in-app purchase available for more hints.
7 Little Words is available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch for free. Download it via direct iTunes link.
Text Twist 2
I could still remember the sleepless nights while playing this in my desktop a few years ago. Talk about creative juices when you feel like giving up for the longest word; still, I won’t give up.
Now it’s even made available on iOS and Android app. The iOS app is more versatile, with the same mechanics – shuffle the letters and form words until you guess the longest one.
The concept of the game is to come up with many words and filling the empty boxes before the time stops.

Hooked on Words
I recently stumbled upon an addicting word game that comes with a word puzzle in bejeweled-like mechanics.
The words are in tile system, and players must form words in any direction from the tiles. It comes with 4 game modes, so it’s highly contagious when you decide to play.
Definitely, you’re going to be hooked on words. For newbies, you can choose the Standard mode and play at your own pace.
Challenge yourself. Go for the advanced mode and play like never before. Hooked on Words is available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch for free. Download it via direct iTunes link.
Word to Word
This game is included in my A-list. If you’re fond of synonyms, antonyms, and word associations, then you will definitely enjoy this game.
It’s a combination of word puzzle, Hangman, and crossword games. You won’t even know its past by your bedtime as you get hooked on the concept.
You might as well play at your own pace. But if you want to be challenged, go for the advanced mode.
Word-to-Word is available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch for free. Download it via direct iTunes link.
Last but not the least, the seventh app on my list is Hangman. It has been my favorite ever since.
It’s more updated with news and latest scoops that are automatically downloaded from the Internet.
As for the mechanics, you can choose from the easiest to the tough one. It’s a challenging game worth downloading. Better be updates with the latest scoop to prevent your man from being hanged.
Hangman is available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch for free. Download it via direct iTunes link.
These are just some of the few apps I play when I’m bored or during lax hours. I think there are better word game apps worthy of reviews. Do you have anything in mind?
