Spotlight search was rarely used by iOS users until Cydia developers started to enhance its functionality. A lot of jailbreak developers are releasing tweaks that rely on Spotlight. The latest addition to the stock is SLightEnhancerSearch. Read on for more details.
This tweak grants Spotlight the ability to search more than what the search engines offer in your iDevice. Users can add a number of search shortcuts so that Spotlight is able to search on the App Store, web, social media, iTunes, Cydia, and a number of other services.
The tweak does not make changes to the way spotlight functions. Users will still be able to see their messages, contacts, etc. as before. The tweak will add options within the results underneath the search bar when the text is entered.
The following search options can be added or removed from SLightEnhancerSearch settings; App Store, Facebook, iTunes, Amazon, Quran, YouTube, Instagram, iBooks, Alfanous and Twitter. These options can be added from underneath the ‘Search Wikipedia’ option. This tweak will first need to be enabled from the stock Settings. When you have selected the options, you would be required to tap on ‘Apply Changes’. The device needs to be respringed if no changes are made.
SLightEnhancerSearch displays some results in Safari, whereas other searches will take you to the appropriate app such as iBooks, App Store, etc.
It has some bugs, which includes the functionality of ‘Apply changes’ button, and several resprings. The way these results are shown can be improved as well, and hopefully these changes will be added with the updates. The addition of icons will make things a lot easier.
The SLightEnhancerSearch can be downloaded free of cost from Cydia’s BigBoss Repo. Let us know if you try it out.
