The release of the new iOS 6 will mark the end of a particular era, the time during which Apple had teamed up with Google for its stock YouTube app. Now with the arrival of the new iOS 6, there is no such YouTube app anymore. However, Google has launched its own YouTube client on the App store. The new app has already received a lot of positive feedback and reviews. Many users have simply defined it as being better than its older version. This new version of the YouTube client has a much more slicker interface meaning it is much more nicer to look at and easier to use. The video streaming is almost as enjoyable as when viewed on a desktop.
There is no doubt that most users will enjoy using the new app for YouTube. However, there are several aspects of the old YouTube that they would be missing out on as well. Since now the YouTube app has become a third party app, external links in text messages and emails can no longer be directly opened and in order to use this specific functionality, users of the iPhone will now have to install YTOpener on from Cydia. Thanks to this particular tweak, people who will use the new iOS 6 can open YouTube links directly in the new YouTube app instead of Safari.
The YTOpener tweak can be found in the BigBoss repo of the Cydia store. Once installed, this particular tweak sits quietly in the background and does what it’s supposed to without adding any new things to the original YouTube. No new menus or settings are added and the functionality can simply be checked by clicking on a link on a device running the iOS 6. Even though the functionality of this new app is highly respectable, there are still a few aspects it misses out on. An example would be how it can only run links that are created on desktop, meaning links starting with “m.youtube.com” will not run through this particular tweak. Given the fact that most links are sent through smartphones, it is an alarming problem. The developers of YTOpener have assured the users that they are working to fix this problem. Will you use YTOpener? Or go with another video app for iOS 6? Feel free to comment!
