Now you can download various file types on iOS Google Chrome browser using Chrome Download Manager jailbreak tweak authored by Skram. Probably, you’ve heard about the Safari Download Manager, which obviously works on Safari mobile browser. Today let’s take a look on what’s in store for us.
Personally, one of my concerns when I browse through the web using my iOS device is the limited feature of file downloads. As much as I want to download file types like .pdf, rar, .mp3. and . avi I can’t. However, when I saw the Changes on the packages a few days ago, I gave Chrome Download Manager a shot to see how it works.
For those of you who are interested to install this jailbreak tweak, you should have the iFile via Cydia (later you’ll understand why) installed on your iOS device. One more thing, obviously it works with Chrome Google, right? Learn How To Set Chrome as Your Default iOS Browser With BrowserChooser.
I read Jeff Bejanmin’s review on iDownload blog, and he mentioned some bugs on 1.0 release. He experienced instability and crashes on his iPhone 4 and iPad. Currently, I have the updated version 1.1-2 on my iPod Touch 4G and I think it needs more fixing. I experienced unprecedented shutdown of the Chrome browser when I attempted to download the file.
I don’t want to steal your joy. However, considering its user interface and convenience, the tweak has unique features. I find it useful and practical to use in preference with mobile browsing.

Now you don’t have to worry about the files you need to download or music files you need to store on your device. If you want to install the tweak, launch Cydia on Home Screen and tap Search. Type in “Chrome Download Manager” and install the tweak. I highly recommend to re-spring your device for the changes to take effect. For your convenience, install IconsLock to access reboot or respring button.
Once Google Chrome Download Manager is installed head to Settings app to enable the tweak. To see how it works, go to the site where you can access a direct link to a file. Let’s say I want to download this free e-book (pdf) I received via Email about Children’s ministry. What’s amazing about this tweak is the automatic detection of applicable file for download. It pops up a window that allows the users to either download or cancel the file.
After the file download you can easily access the file via iFile in this directory: var/mobile/Media/Downloads
In case you need to download large files, it will put them into a queue for downloads. You’ll see a badge notification on the Settings Menu of Chrome indicating a download in progress. If you need to work on other apps while waiting for these large files, the Notification Center support will alert you of completed downloads.
Frankly, there are few glitches on this tweak. But if you’re interested to score the best introductory price offered by the developer for $3 via ModMyi repository.
