How To Add Silent/Mute Feature To iPod Touch

It amazes us how developers come up with creative ideas to tweak and tinker with iOS devices for better performance, aesthetics and additional functions.

Whether you’re using an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, definitely there’s a jailbreak tweak that will suit every model. It’s an advantage for us as we enjoy these features. Basically, these three devices have almost similar facets in different usage. Of course when it comes to sizes, obviously the iPod for music lovers and iPhone for callers are pretty much the same.

Nevertheless, these two are separate devices, each carrying a certain design. And we are thankful that some developers offered music lovers some packages that are tailored specifically towards the iPod Touch.

We give the credit to CoolStar, who authored this iPod jailbreak tweak called “TapVolumeToMute.” Basically, it offers a feature that the stock iPod touch lack – a mute switch. Once it is installed, you can press any volume button to bring up the HUD. Simply tap it to mute or unmute.

You know how the stock unit works, if you’re going to adjust the volume, you need to press the volume button many times until it reaches zero. However, with TapVolumeToMute tweak, it’s more convenient. You don’t have to go through the manual adjustments.

There are no options for configuration once the tweak is installed. If you want to try this tweak, launch Cydia and tap Search. Type in, “TapVolumeToMute” and install. Respring your device and play a song to test the tweak.

It takes one button to adjust the volume. And there you have it! You can set your iPod in silent mode or mute.

Personally, I downloaded the tweak and installed it to see how it works. There’s nothing special about it, but it works fab. And I’ll give this one 4-star rating.

TapVolumeTo Mute tweak is available on Cydia BigBoss repository for FREE.
