Not long ago, Apple quietly revised iOS 5.1.1 build, timing for the public release of iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak using Absinthe 2.0. We don’t want to spoil the excitement, but we stumbled upon this update on Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 on iH8Sn0w’s site. The famous iOS hacker updated his site with the new Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 release that supports iOS 5.1.1 untethered A4 devices only. iH8sn0w mentioned,
“Although there isn’t much of a difference it was enough to make the 9B206 untether payload for the iPhone 4 (GSM) invalidate on 9B208. Until pod2g/planetbeing build an untether payload for this build, 9B208 support is not included. A small update will be pushed whenever this occurs. This doesn’t mean the untether was patched though.”
Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 supports A4 devices – iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, iPad 1 and Apple TV 2G. If you’re wondering what’s the use of Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4, it allows users to create custom iOS 5.1.1 firmware file that is pre-jailbroken to update your devices to iOS 5.1.1. For the iPhone, it will preserve baseband from getting an upgrade to enable the unlocking with UltraSn0w. The UltraSn0w is not yet compatible with iOS 5.1.1 revised version.
Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 doesn’t support A5 and A5x devices – iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3 and Apple TV 3G. There is no current bootrom available for these devices. The release doesn’t support the revised build (9B208) for iOS 5.1.1. So until or unless you are an unlocker and want to preserve your iPhone 4 and 3GS old baseband, it is useless to run this over Chronic Dev Team’s Absinthe 2.0 untethered jailbreak.
“A5(X) Support?:
As stated many times in the past, sn0wbreeze cannot be updated to work on A5(X) devices until a low level exploit in DFU or iBoot is found and made public. Therefore, A5(X) users will have to rely on using the lovely”
If you want to continue the process, make sure your device have the 9B206 build for GSM iPhone 4 users. The latest version of Sn0wbreeze is only available for Windows users; you can download it here. The instructions are the same as the previous release. Use the iOS 5.1.1 IPSW version and skip the booting tethered step on iBooty. This version supports untethered jailbreak.
