Wave Alarm App: Silent Alarm Using Motion Gestures

The built-in Clock app bundles a simple alarm. If you don’t like the one come with the iOS, there is no shortage of alarm apps in the App Store. Night Stand HD, Alarm Clock HD and iHome+Sleep are some of the great alarm apps that let user customize the alarm with beautiful background and even read updates from Twitter/Facebook. But like the built-in alarm clock, all of them have one thing in common. You have to touch the screen and use the slider to disable the alarm when the alarm is triggered at your preset time.

Developed by Augmented Minds, the recently-released Wave Alarm app tries to stand out from the crowd by introducing Motion Control technology. Instead of using the slider to stop the alarm, as the name suggests, the Wave Alarm lets user to turn off the alarm by simply waving your hand over the device. You don’t need to touch!

Wave Alarm - How It Works

That sounds cool but you may argue it’s too easy to stop the alarm and fall asleep again. Anyway, this app brings something new to the ordinary alarm clock. Just like other third-party alarm apps, Wave Alarm comes with different sounds for you to choose from. It does allow you to choose any song in your music library as well.

The Wave Alarm works on any device with front-face camera and iOS 5 (or up) installed. However, due to multitasking limitations, the app must be running in the foreground for Motion Detection to work. So remember to leave the app open when you go to bed.

The app is now available for free to try out. You can download it from App Store through this direct iTunes link. If you like it, you can upgrade to full version of $1.99.

Don’t forget to check out the demo video to see how it works:

Simon, I have been trying to sync a song as a ring tone and I used your article on it. I also read all the replies of the problems that people were having. For some reason it appears that I have done all the things right many many times and like most people, when I get it step 10, and I go back to Finder , the file does not appear. I just cannot find out where the problem could be. I am using a 4s phone and it does not appear anywhere. I went back to make sure that everything was turned on, that the library was checked for organizing the music, that I kept the file etc but where you say it will automatically add it to item ringtone library, I wonder if I don’t understand where that is? It is not showing on the side of my Mac and it is not showing in my library app and it is not showing up anywhere on my phone. I have added ringtone to the phone just fine but wheat I am trying to add right now is a West Point fight song and it does not come as a ring tone but I did find the song and I am trying to turn it into a ring tone. Please email me back and try to help me. This is really important to me. Thank you so much. Sorry that I am using this site for a question but I could not find a place to comment on the actual instruction site that I am using and it seems like all the people that you helped were before the 4s phone..
