Just hours after the official release of iOS 5, the iPhone Dev team rolled out an update of its popular jailbreak tool – redsn0w and adds the support of iOS 5 jailbreak.
You can now use the redsn0w 0.9.9b5 to jailbreak the iOS 5. However, keep in mind that the tool only supports tethered jailbreak unless you’re using old-bootrom iPhone 3GS. That means for devices including the iPhone 4 and the iPad 1, you need to re-jailbreak your device when it is rebooted or runs out of battery.
As mentioned in the team’s blog, the latest version of redsn0w doesn’t support jailbreaking on iPad 2 and iPhone 4GS. You’ll need to wait a little bit longer before there is a viable solution.
What’s New about Redsn0w 0.9.9b5
The redsn0w 0.9.9b5 has included the public URLs for the IPSW files. So, first-time iOS 5 jailbreakers don?t need to supply the IPSW file manually.
On top of that, the team has built some functionalities that are originally available on PwnageTool into redsn0w. The new ?Custom IPSW? button as you find on the Extras screen allows you to create a custom IPSW without the baseband update for 4.3.3 or 5.0. Presently, the custom IPSW feature supports both iPhone3GS and iPhone4 only.

Where to Download Redsn0w
The redsn0w 0.9.9b5 is now available on Mac. You can download the tool via the following link:
The Windows version should be available very soon. Later we will publish the step-by-step guide to walk you through the iOS 5 jailbreak process. If you can’t wait for it, you can refer to our earlier guide that shows you how to jailbreak iOS 5 GM. The procedures should be very similar.
Have you upgrade to iOS 5 yet? Leave us comment and let us know.
For those using ultrasn0w unlock, please allow me to remind you once again. Do not upgrade to iOS 5 directly from iTunes. You’ll lose the unlock and probably you can’t unlock it again. So take extra care.
