Unlock iPhone 4 using Ultrasn0w 1.0-1

After the debut of JailbreakMe, iPhone Dev team has released an updated version of ultrasn0w to unlock iPhone 4.

With ultrasn0w, you can free your iPhone to use with any carrier. The latest version of ultrasn0w supports carrier unlock for iPhone 4 with baseband 01.59.00, as well as, 3G and 3GS riding on baseband 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04.

To use ultrasn0w with iPhone 4, you need to first jailbreak the iPhone with JailbreakMe. You can refer to the earlier post about the jailbreak procedures.

If you have jailbroken your iPhone 4, simply follow these instructions to unlock it.

1. Launch cydia

cydia_icon

2. Tap “Search” and type in “ultrasn0w” to search for Ultrasn0w application.

3. Once found, tap on “ultrasn0w”. Next, tap “Install” to install it.

Once the installation completes, reboot your iPhone. That’s it! Now, your iPhone is unlocked and you are free to choose other carriers.

In case you can’t find the package…

Just in case that you can’t find ultrasn0w in step 2, you can add the required source using these procedures:

1. In cydia, tap “Manage” and select “Sources”.

cydia-manage-source

2. Tap “Edit” button and then tap “Add” button.

3. Type in “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” for the cydia/apt URL and tap “Add Source”. Cydia will then verify the URL and register the repository URL. When complete, tap “Return to Cydia” to continue.

4. You’ll find the new URL registered. Tap “Done”. Now, you should be able to find the ultrasn0w package.

    Hi Simon,
How are you doing? I’ve been a big fan of your blogs since the first gen of the iPhone. I need your advise for the iPhone 3G on iOS 4 slowness issue. I’ve upgraded my iPhone 3G to the iOS 4, now the phone is extremely slow and make it not “usable”. I tried to turn off some features like MMS, SpotSearch, etc based on some Google search, but the phone still shows very low memory (10MB – 30MB) available in SBSettings.
I’ve decided to downgrade the iOS back to an older version. Any older version is fine as long as I can jailbreak & unlock the phone that has the 05.13.04 baseband.
So my questions are what older version I should rollback to, and what tools I can use to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 3G (05.13.04)?

    Thanks a lot.

      @DC,

Thanks for your support. I suggest you to downgrade to 3.1.3 and use redsn0w to jailbreak your iPhone. For unlocking, you can use ultrasn0w via cydia.

      • DC August 28, 2010 at 9:23 am #

        Hi Simon,
I just want to post some updates about the iOS downgrade. I’ve successfully downloaded to 3.1.2 by doing the following:
        - First I restored to 3.1.3, then jailbreak it using the RedSn0w with 3.1.2 firmware. The phone was jailbroken but the Edge/3G internet was not working, and I couldn’t run the UltraSn0w to unlock the phone either. Note that the firmware still showed 3.1.3 in the Settings/About.
        - Tried again to restore back to 3.1.2, then jailbroke the phone using the RedSn0w with 3.1.2. 3G/Edge is working, and also installed the UltraSn0w with no issue. I didn’t test the unlock yet since I am an AT&T customer.

        Thanks again for your help.

      @krish,

You can upgrade to iOS 4.0.1 and use JailbreakMe to jailbreak it. The latest version of iOS is 4.0.2. So make sure you download the firmware file of 4.0.1 version.

    Hi Simon
I live in Peru and have already bought a virgin Iphone 4 in USA, now I need to jailbreak it and unlock it.
Obviously I dont have the original SIM Card, I only have my SIM cards from Peru
I read something about a “DITS Phone Book SIM Card”, is that card completely necessary to jailbreak the phone? is there any other way? Can I use PwnageTool or Redsn0w?

You need to seriously think about expanding this blog into a major voice in this market. You clearly have a good grasp of the areas everyone is looking for on this blog anyways and you could maybe even earn a buck or two off of some ads. I would look into following recent trends and raising the number of articles you make and I guarantee you’d start receiving some easy traffic in the near future. Just a thought, good luck in whatever you do!

    Hi,

I am trying to restore my iPhone 3GS by downloading the iOS 4.02 from the below site…http://www.simonblog.com/iphone-software-download/ so that I can jailbreak and unlock the phone (iOS 4.0.2).

My phone present settings are as follows:
    Modem Firmware – 05.11.07
    iOS version – 3.1.2 (7D11)

When I try to restore the iPhone using iTunes 10, and the “iPhone2,1_4.0.2_8A400_Restore.ipsw” file downloaded from the simonblog website (download section) … I get the following error – “iTunes Error: The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)”

    Any advice/ help?

Hi, I have an iPhone 3g that has been unlocked and jailbroken for over a year. I used your blog to make it happen.

    http://www.simonblog.com/2009/11/06/complete-guide-jailbreak-and-unlock-iphone-3g3gs-3-1-2-using-blackra1n-blacksn0w/

I kept running into a problem with YouTube, GPS and Wifi… I tried to use the fix you blogged about but my cydia kept crashing… so i never got it fixed.

I just got a job as a delivery driver. the next day i got an email about being able to unlock iOS 4.2.1 and i thought that might fix my prblem especially since i need the GPS making deliveries.

I followed the instructions here found here

    http://www.simonblog.com/2010/12/01/how-to-unlock-ios-4-2-1-for-iphone-3g3gs-using-redsn0w-and-ultrasn0w/

and it worked! My 3G was unlocked… but it was moving VERY SLOW and my battery would literally die in 2hrs. from 100% to 0% in 2 hours…

I thought, let me restore the iPhone back to iOS 3.1.2 so i used blkra!n and now I get the screen that says “plug into iTunes” now I have no phone. I have no clue how to fix this mess I created… Do you have any help for me? I just want to get to a fully functional iOS 3.1.2

    Thanks!
