Apple Released Three New iPhone Ads: First Steps, On Hold & Family Travel

by Simon Ng on February 24, 2010

Yesterday, Apple rolled out three new iPhone commercials named First Steps, On Hold and Family Travel. Unlike the previous TV commercial with the theme of “There is an app for that”, two of the news commercials targets to show off the built-in features of iPhone.

The “First Steps” ad targets parents who want to capture some precious moments with the new family member. It just demonstrates how easy you can use iPhone 3GS to record a video, share it via MMS and even start a conference call to talk about the video right after that.

The second ad named “On Hold” demonstrates a common feature of iPhone that any iPhone user should know about. While you are put on hold by someone, you can always do other stuffs (e.g. check email, pay bill, play game, etc) without disconnecting the call.

The final ad title “Family Travel” showcases three interesting iPhone applications for family travel and a clip of the Pixar film Finding Nemo shown accessed through the built-in iPod application. The three iPhone apps are:

  • Southwest Airlines [iTunes link] – It’s a free app from Southwest Airlines that lets you make reservations, check in for flights and access the Rapid Rewards account.
  • Gateguru [iTunes link] – You can think of Gateguru as Yelp for airport. It is a free airport guide that shows you where to find the best food, shopping and service options within any U.S. airports.
  • Schlage LiNK [iTunes link] – This app allows users to remotely lock and unlock LiNK-equipped doors, check the status of door locks and communicate with home control devices from any location. In the ad, Apple shows you how it can be used to turn off the light of living room while you’re at airport! The app is free but you need to pair it with the Schlage LiNK Starter Kit that costs US$299.

This is a great article that really covers many things I have seen in response to these advertisements.
Just one thing I would like to add, Schlage LiNK was given a repeat performance in the Family Travel commercial. It was previously seen in the “12 Days of Christmas” commercial in December.
For those of you who would like to know more about it straight from the company please check out these links: http://link.schlage.com & http://link.schlage.com/remote_management/Pages/MobileAccess.aspx

Full Disclosure: I work with Schlage LiNK and thought you guys might like the new commercial and travel app option.

If you have any questions about my comment or Schlage LiNK feel free to contact me.
