Apple Releases iTunes 9.0.3 with Important Bug Fixes

by Simon Ng on February 3, 2010

Apple has just released iTunes v9.0.3 and is now available via software update. The new release provides a number of bug fixes, as mentioned in the release note:

  • iTunes no longer ignores your “Remember password for purchases” setting.
  • Addresses problems with syncing some Smart Playlists and Podcasts with iPod.
  • Resolves a problem recognizing when iPod is connected.
  • Addresses issues that affect stability and performance.

For those using jailbroken iPhone, as always, you probably have the same question in your mind: Is the new release of iTunes compatible with jailbroken iPhone. From my preliminary test, there is no problem with jailbroken iPhone. It is quite safe for jailbreaker to upgrade.

Still using iTunes v8 or lower… Time to Upgrade

If you’re still using older version of iTunes, it is highly recommended to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes. Back in September, Apple announced a major upgrade of iTunes to version 9 that brought us lots of interesting features. Let me highlight some of them:

  • An improved look and feel – Includes a new Column Browser for easily browsing your artists or albums, movies, TV shows, and more.
  • A brand new look for iTunes store – Improved navigation for quick and easy exploration.
  • iTunes LP and iTunes Extras – Create unique experiences that feature exclusive interviews, videos, photos, and more.
  • Home Sharing – Helps you manage your family’s iTunes collection between computers in your home. Now you can automatically transfer new purchases.
  • Genius Mixes – Let you play songs from your library that go great together.
  • Home Screen Organization – Now iPod and iPhone syncing allows you to organize your iPhone and iPod touch home screens directly in iTunes (see below image). Syncing is now also more flexible, allowing you to sync individual artists, genres, or TV show and Podcast episodes.
  • iTunes U – iTunes U items are now organized into their own section in your iTunes library.

If you haven’t upgraded to iTunes 9.0.3, simply upgrade it via the software update feature in iTunes or just click this link to download it.

Hi Simon, I have just bought a iPhone 3GS and jailbroke it using blackrain RC3. Installed Cydia & Rock and some other apps. However, I just realised that I was not able to receive any incoming calls or sms while I am using any applications, including official ones like Safari or Facebook.
Is this caused by the jailbreak and is there any way I can fix it?
Thanks for your help!

Yesterday my iPhone restarted itself without no reason, but did not really restarted, it stayed in the little Apple icon for more than 30 minutes. I did a hard reset, did not work, then connected the phone to the laptop to see whether it would respond after syncing it, but iTunes did not recognize it, I push the power and home buttons several times, did 2 or 3 hard resets again, and finally it responded.

Today, at around 2:00 pm it did the same, it is now 4:52 and I have not been able to make it respond. Some times you see the little circle bars indicating that is doing something, but it freezes right in the apple icon screen, and it has rebooted itself several times but there is no way I can get it out of the apple icon, or get the iTunes to recognize it.

I upgraded to iTunes 9.0.3 yesterday, but don“t remember if the first reset of the iPhone was before or after the upgrade .

What can I do???

hi Lynn, i have the same problem for the past weeks and i did not stop searching for solutions. i found quite several solutions but to no avail. i found one solution that might help since this is the procedure i always use everytime itunes give me this -50 error. anyway, close iTunes first then go to your PC’s “C:” drive, find and click open “Users”, click open “Administrator” or it may be your name which will appear there if you are the Administrator of your PC, click open “AppData”, click open “Roaming”, click open “Apple Computer”, click open “iTunes”, then delete “iTunesPrefs.xml”. after this, open iTunes. it will open as if you first install iTunes.. it will download again everything in your iTunes. BE SURE TO SYNC FIRST YOUR IPHONE WITH ITUNES BEFORE DOING THIS PROCEDURE SO THAT YOUR APPS AND DATA WILL BE BACKED UP. just let me know if this somehow solve your problem.

HI Guys,

I have also had this issue, to correct jsut go:

edit>preferences>parrental control:

Check the ‘itunes store’ option and also ‘allow access to itunes U’

you should be able to get to the store at this point, after this you can un-check and it should be fine.

Regards,
