TripIt is a website that offers an orderly travel planning solution over the Internet. You can organize trip details into a master online itinerary; automatically include maps, directions, and weather; book restaurants and theatre tickets; and of course access your travel plans online and share them with trusted friends or family. Moreover, you can check-in for flights and/or print itineraries.
The free service of TripIt is pretty basic and allows you to plan your itinerary and get maps, directions and weather. Also, of course you can share with friends on other social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn. Or, only with designated family and friends via e-mail. The Pro version (which costs $69 USD per year) offers mobile alerts about flight delays, cancellations and/or gate changes; keeps track of many of the most popular rewards points; and, helps to find alternate flights; and also allows you to designate a “Inner Circle” that you share your plans with – like a spouse or an assistant.
By all regards, TripIt.com is very helpful to someone who either has a large complicated itinerary to sort out….or, flies a lot. I could see how this would be very helpful and useful.
Moreover, TripIt also offers its iPhone app which is available for free. You could access your travel plan right from your iPhone. Simply launch the app and sign in with your Tripit online account. The app will automatically loads your travel plan on iPhone. You can review the travel plan and the app lets you get maps and directions straight from your itinerary. You can also find links to airlines, hotels, restaurants and more, directly from your itinerary.

Sadly, however, the app only allows you to review the travel plans and itineraries .That’s it. You could not add another trip or even modify an existing trip. To edit the trip plan, you’ll need to go back to the website. Or send the travel confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com.
Overall, TripIt makes it easy to organize and share your travel plan. If you’re a frequent traveller and need a tool to store your travel plans on iPhone, go and check out TripIt [iTunes Link]. But as mentioned, this app appears to need a lot of work yet, at least it needs to incorporate the edit feature. If you’re interested in TripIt, you may want to take a look at some other travel apps that incorporate the Tripit website like: TravelTracker or FlightTrack Pro.
