More Details about Apple’s Upcoming Tablet Device

While you may be patiently awaiting Apple’s upcoming special event for the official announcement of the tablet device, some, like me, would like to know about the details or specification ahead of the event. We do not have any close source with Apple but folks at Apple Insider gave us some hints about the tablet device.

First, the overall design of the tablet device originates from the 1st generation iPhone with aluminum shell. You can think of a tablet as a enlarged version of the original iPhone:

Nestled in an aluminum shell that leverages the Apple’s expertise in unibody construction but thinner proportionality than the original iPhone, the tablet reportedly sports all of the same buttons found on the handset, right down to its iconic home button — which, like the volume toggle, is missing from the rendering.

The device will also come with:

  • Same in/out connectivity as the existing iPhone 3GS
  • 3.5mm stero headphone jack
  • Built-in speaker grills
  • A microphone
  • 30-pin dock connect
  • 10-inch display framed by a black border

To give you an idea how the tablet will look like, you can take a look at the mockup photo above. The photo is created by a Flickr user Fotoboer.nl and said to be strikingly close to the real deal, according to Apple Insider’s close source who’s familiar with the device.

Earlier, Wall Street Journal also gave a sneak peek of the device, mentioning that it will also come with a built-in camera that can recognize who’s using it:

One person familiar with the matter said Apple has put significant resources into designing and programming the device so that it is intuitive to share. This person said Apple has experimented with the ability to leave virtual sticky notes on the device and for the gadget to automatically recognize individuals via a built-in camera. It is unclear whether these features will be included at launch.

The Journal also claimed the device will be priced at around US$1,000.

Of course, all the above information about the device are not official. We still need to wait for Steve Jobs to announce the device officially on January 27. Can’t wait till Wednesday!

So, what do you think about the tablet device? At that price level, will you buy it? Remember to leave us comment and let us know your thought.
