An Update about YouTube Fix for Blackra1n Jailbreak

by Simon Ng on January 20, 2010

If you have jailbroken your iPhone with blackra1n on OS 3.1.2, chance is that you may not be able to connect to YouTube after jailbreaking. In early November, I have covered to use PushFix 1.0 to fix the YouTube connection problem. Originally, PushFix is originally designed for resolving push notification issue but it’s found that it can fix the YouTube issue at the same time.

Anyhow, this is not an official fix and PushFix 1.0 will introduce the push broadcast problem. To completely resolve the connection issue of YouTube, the developer of Pushfix has come up with a YouTube Fix that officially rectify the problem and it’s available for free through cydia. Unlike the original Pushfix, as mentioned by the developer, this fix do not cause excessive battery drain.

Procedures to Install YouTube Fix for Jailbroken iPhone

Not everyone of you using blackra1n is required to install YouTube fix. If you do not have any connection with YouTube after blackra1n jailbreak, you do not need to bother with this fix. Just enjoy watching the videos. That’s it!

But if you encounter “Cannot connect to YouTube” after launching the app (assuming that your WiFi or 3G connection is normal), it’s very likely you need this fix.

1. First, launch cydia.

2. Tap “Manage” -> “Source” and then tap the “Edit” button.

3. Tap “Add”. Then add the Pushfix source (http://cydia.pushfix.info).

4. Once you have added the repository, you should be able to download the YouTube Fix package. Go to “Search” and key in “YouTube” to locate the YouTube Fix package.

5. There are three packages of YouTube Fix. Tap on “Youtube Fix #1″ and install it.

Once the installation is complete, go back to home screen and launch YouTube. You should be able to connect to YouTube.

In case the fix doesn’t work for you, launch cydia again and uninstall the “YouTube Fix #1″. Then go through step 4 & 5 of the above procedures. But for step 5, install “Youtube Fix #2″ instead. If it still doesn’t work, uninstall #2 and install the “YouTube Fix #3″ package. It’s very important you only install one of the YouTube fixes at one time.

Tip: If you’re in search of solution to fix Push Notification after jailbreaking your iPhone, you can use PushFix 2.0 to resolve the issue. Check out this guide for further information.

Didn’t work for me… i installed the #1 which didnt work, then the #2 which didn’t work either, both said “Not possible to watch this video” or something along those lines and the #3 wouldn’t install correctly so i thought aw well, which brings me back to my problem :(

Thanks for this informative tutorial and links. In case it helps anyone, note that this worked on my phone which was jailbroken and unlocked with PWNAGE tool.

iPhone 2G with modem firmware 04.05.04_G – originally jailbroken and unlocked for T-Mo over a year ago using PWNAGE. Never had any issues at all with Youtube, and did various iTunes updates and incremental updates of PWNAGE tool (last updated to 3.13)

A few days ago, I was playing around with the apps locations phone and moved the Messages (texts) icon into the Dock, which moved the YouTube and other hardwired apps forward one higher in the list. At that point, I could no longer connect to YouTube. I think this is what broke YouTube on my phone. I never had moved any of the default apps before or during my original and subsequent jailbreak and unlock.

Resync, Restore, Re-PWNAGE did nothing to resolve the YouTube issue (although I restored as a new phone this last time, so I’m sure I cleaned out a lot of crap on the phone). Originally, I was unable to find any info, but ran across another SimonBlog with the related Pushfix info, which led me here.

All that to say, Fix #1 did the trick for me. Thanks, Simon!
