How to Fix YouTube, GPS, WiFi Problems after Blackra1n Jailbreak

by Simon Ng on November 7, 2009

blackra1n - Cannot Connect to YouTubeBlackra1n is a great jailbreak tool for iPhone 2G, 3G or 3GS running OS 3.1.2. It’s simple and quick. But it does come with some bugs. If you have already followed my guide to jailbreak your iPhone with blackra1n, you may encounter one of the below issues:

  • Fail to launch YouTube
  • GPS doesn’t work if you’re using iPhone 3G/3GS
  • WiFi is not working

I guess GeoHot, the developer of blackra1n, will fix these bugs in the next version update. However, at the mean time, you can follow these workarounds to fix the issues.

How To Fix WiFi Issue

To fix the WiFi issue after blackra1n issue, you can simply reset the network settings. Go to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Reset” and select “Reset Network Settings”. Tap on the “Reset Network Settings” button again to confirm. After resetting, the WiFi issue should be fixed.

How To Fix YouTube and GPS Issues

It’s very interesting the PushFix patch, which is originally designed for fixing push notification, can be used to fix the YouTube and GPS issues. To install the PushFix, you can follow Step 1 to 8 of this installation guide.

PushFix - Install

After patching with PushFix, your iPhone should be able to use YouTube and GPS.

I’m only experiencing the wifi issue. Unfortunately, resetting the network settings did not fix the problem. I already had an app called wifiFoFum (iTunes app store) which was detecting all wifi signals and allows you join networks. Connecting via it did work, however when I went into the OS wifi settings, while showing and being connected, it continues to not detect others in the area.

This is precisely why its better to wait for an unlock from the iPhone Dev Team. I am still holding on to 3.0. GeoHot is a genius no doubt. But I guess the iPhone Dev team checks and rechecks all issues with the iPhone before making a release while others don’t have that much patience.

Hi Kamal,

Oh how I concur. I never rush to upgrade/update especially delicate issues like the iphone.
I’m hoping for the DEV TEAM as well.

Hi all,
I know this is not related to the above posts but I need help please.
Recently I mistakenly updated my Skype to the new version 1.2.2 via my phone App Store and since then, it crashes. When I opened the application, it said “not compatible with modified phones”.
Any thoughts…solution…?

Thanx

@Steve, that’s just a warning message. I think you can continue to use Skype on jailbroken iPhone.

Thnx Simon.
Skype loads for a few seconds, and crashes. I had no probs with the previous version(1.2.1.09).
My iPhone OS is 3.0.1
Do you reckon I should update my OS?

Hi Guys,
For guys with SKYPE crashing, the culprit is the iphoneDelivery app. Apparently it clashes with 3GUnrestrictor. The developer has come up with an update (0.2.1) which delimits the 3G function in Skype, but then you still have to disable Unrestrictor.
So it’s a matter of a lesser evil. In as much as I really like iphonedelivery, pending a lasting solution, I’d rather temporarily uninstall it to use Skype.
This is the link to the application update by the developer.
Hope this piece helps…

@Steve see if skype you installed is compatible with your OS version.

Hi,

I’m not sure but I’m currently on OS 3.0.1. could that affect it?
I’m not in the habit of rushing to update anything either in my computer or iphone…I normally wait a while.

Thnx for your comment though.

hi Simon… just have some concern or problem. this may not be directly related to what has been posted here and maybe some people out there are also experiencing the same problem. actually, it’s not only me who has this kind of problem but also my other colleagues in the office who has an iphone. we actually have iphone 3GS and we updated it to OS 3.1.2 and jailbroken and unlocked with blackra1n / blacksn0w. the problem is we cannot connect to the internet using the cellular data network. whenever we tried to connect this error pops out “Could not activate cellular data network. You are not subscribed to a cellular data service.” but if we connect to the internet using Wifi, it is working well. do you have any comments or suggestions or solution or recommendation about this problem? hope to hear from you soon. thanks always for your support.

Iphone 3G: Version : 3.1.2
Status : jailbreaked and unlocked with Blackra1n and Blacksn0w

Problem : bluetooth Headset can not be paired. Must mention here that I am aware of Discovery Mode of bluetooth. It was working with OS 3.0 before.

After jailbreaking and unlocking, bluetooth pairing with any of my headsets ( Motorola hH500, Plantrnics 640, Plantronics 220) is not being possible…!!! spent all night and restored and unlocked the phone several times…wheel just goes on and on and it says ” searching” and shows “HEADSET” ” NOT PAIRED “.. when I click on it ,just another wheel starts and it never goes to the Bluetooth Code screen, where we put ‘0000′ .
I drive a lot so can’t live without bluetooth…any help out there..?

Hi guys,
Tell me please what to do when reset of Network does not work and there is not WiFi connection at all?
Could be Cydia downloaded manually on PC?
How to verify that the problem in hardware of phone and not in software?
Thanks a lot.

Anyone having problem with Skype over 3G after Blackra1n and Blacksn0w? I seem to have a problem. Skype would log in and let me make a call. After like 5 sec the calls are dropped and the signal goes from full bar to zero bar to “searching” and back to full bar. I am using VoIPover3G to use skype.

Hi Paul,
My comment to Simon (above) as regards to SKYPE might help. I had a similar prob but it’s sorted now. I uninstalled iphonedelivery.

Steve,

How do you uninstall iphonedelivery? What does iphonedelievery do? VoIPover3G worked perfectly on 3.0 and yellowsn0w. Maybe it’s just a matter of time for others to figure out all the problems with 3.1.2

iPhoneDelivery notifies you that your SMS has been delivered. Iphone didn’t come with SMS auto delivery. It can be installed from Cydia.
Well, in my case, my OS is still 3.0.1 and prior to my Skype update, it worked well.
I stumbled upon an article written by the Iphonedelivery developer Francois.Guilleme.
He acknowledged that his software clashed with 3G Unristrictor and in the process crashes Skype.

I am wondering why I cannot tether on any computers other than the one that I downloaded Blackra1n with and jailbroke my iphone 3gs with. I performed the jailbreak with my desktop (which I also use to sync my iphone), but I have tried to use the tethering feature on my two laptops and it doesn’t recognize the iphone source at all, whereas it works instantly with my desktop.

any thoughts and advice??
