As you know, GeoHot has released blackra1n RC3 yesterday. The blackra1n is a popular jailbreak tool for iPhone 2G/3G/3GS running firmware 3.1.2. Unlike the older jailbreak tools (e.g. PwnageTool or Redsn0w), blackra1n is advertised as the fastest and simplest jailbreak tool. Yes, it’s super fast. Talking about the jailbreak process, it’ll only take you around 30 seconds to complete. And, the jailbreak process is very simple and straightforward. It’s so easy that I doubt if I need to put up a guide for blackra1n.
Anyways, not all iPhone jailbreakers are geeks. Probably some of the new comers to the jailbreak world may need some help. So, here is the complete guide for blackra1n that shows you how to jailbreak iPhone 2G running OS 3.1.2. (For iPhone 3G/3GS, I’ll post another guide in the next post.)
Before you dive into the jailbreak process, please read through the note carefully:
- Make sure you use iTunes 9.0 or up for the jailbreak. If you are using older version of iTunes, please upgrade it first. You can download the latest version of iTunes from Apple.
- Before jailbreaking, make sure you have backup all your contacts, sms, photos, etc via iTunes. Simply sync your iPhone and backup the iPhone data.
- So, does it work with iPhone 2G previously jailbroken with PwnageTool or Redsn0w? Yes, it works!
- Let me point this out again. This guide is for iPhone 2G. For iPhone 3G/3GS jailbreaking, please refer to this post.
- Disclaimer: Jailbreaking may void your warranty of iPhone. Again, jailbreak it at your own risk.
Okay, that’s enough for the note. Let’s get started.
Upgrade your iPhone to OS 3.1.2
1. Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware from here and save it into a folder.
2. Connect your iPhone via USB and launch iTunes.
Note: I suggest not to use the docking for the jailbreak. Connect the USB cable directly with your iPhone.
3. Restore your iPhone with iPhone OS 3.1.2. For Windows, hold SHIFT key and click on the “Restore” button and select the firmware file (i.e. iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw) you have just downloaded. For Mac, hold option key and click on the “Restore” button and select the firmware file (i.e. iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw) to restore.

4. If you’re not using official sim, your iPhone will not be recognized by iTunes after restoration. Don’t worry. It’s normal. You can then close iTunes and continues with the next step.
Jailbreaking with blackra1n
5. Go to blackra1n.com and download blackra1n. Both Windows and Mac versions are available. So, you should download the correct version depending on your OS.
6. After downloading, unzip the blackra1n.zip.
7. Make sure your iPhone is still connected with your computer via USB. Launch blackra1n.
![]()
8. Click “make it ra1n” to start the jailbreak.

9. Once you click the button, the jailbreak process starts and it’ll take around 30 seconds to complete.

10. Wait until you see the following message and your iPhone should be jailbroken after reboot.

Great! Up to this point, your iPhone should have been activated and jailbroken.
Installing Cydia
Tip: Before proceeding, if you have WiFi connection, I suggest you to first enable it before continuing. This should speed up the download process of cydia.
11. Next, you’ll have to install Cydia. Tap on the “blackra1n” icon.

12. Tap on “Cydia” and then “Install” button to install Cydia. Just wait until the download and installation to complete.

Unlocking iPhone 2G with bootneuter
Okay, with cydia installed, the whole jailbreak process is complete. But if you need to unlock your iPhone 2G to work with unofficial sim, launch cydia and install bootneuter. After installation, reboot your iPhone and enjoy iPhone OS 3.1.2!
Note: If you want to uninstall blackra1n from iPhone home screen, launch blackra1n again and select “uninstall blackra1n”.
As always, remember to share your jailbreak experience by leaving comment below.
Update: You may encounter Wifi, GPS or YouTube issues after jailbreak. Please check out this guide to fix the problems.

and the blackra1n app doesn get installed
so what should i do now????
@Jaweria, please check out this jailbreak guide for iPhone 3GS and try again.
Am really excited. GeoHot is a genius. On the way home from work and am filled with so much anticpation that I can taste it and it and it be too good… Will update ya all soon.
We need to donate to the man so he can keep one step ahead of the Apple Jailers.
If we jailbroke with old version of blackrain and 3.12 already, can we just run new ver of blackrain to jailbreak/unlock? Will this wipes out data??????????
@jogb, I guess you only need to unlock it using blacksn0w. You can download blacksn0w via cydia. If you can’t find it in cydia, remember to add the “http://blackra1n.com” as repository.
Simon
I upgrade my 2G by following your instructions however I am not able to unlock my phone as I getting only emergency call message what should I do? Am I suppose to remove the unofficial sim before restoring to new firmware.
@ims, I suggest you to re-jailbreak again. But make sure you close iTunes and disable iPod services (you can’t kill it via task manager) before running blackra1n.
Simon
Can you please elobrate how to disable ipod service?
Yes please do. I also have this problem and I need to use my phone!
Iam having trouble with my iphone 2g, i cant unlock it. I set it up as a new device in order to

Hi Simon,
Followed the guide and all went well until bootneuter…
The bootneuter does not unlock phone for unofficial SIm carrier… Downloaded bootneuter through Cydia and rebooted device a number of times but to no avail… I noticed that bootneuter did say it was for 2.0 firmware but proceeded anyway on the basis of the guide.
To make matters worse, I downloaded BlacksnOw for the unlock and now my 2g phone is stuck in DFU mode… Apple startup is on display and that’s it…
Please advise how best to proceed? Am using an old Nokia at the moment and it ain’t good… haha
Help!!
Kind Regards
@RichE, what settings do you use for bootneuter? Make sure you select bootloader version 4.6, turn ON “neuter”, turn OFF “Fakeblank” and turn ON “unlock”. Try again and see if this works for you.
Simon, ur guide was very good, the complete jailbreak and unlock went very smooth… but the problem am facing is with bootneuter. Iam using 2G iPhone. As u suggested i did flash with settings bootloader version 4.6, turn ON “neuter”, turn OFF “Fakeblank” and turn ON “unlock”…. it did all the flash work.
But got stuck with the screen “Please wait.. Determining current settings…”
What should i do now? Please help me asap.
Thanks in advance.
I just tried switch off and switch on the phone.. I was able to make calls.
Does the problem i reported before will affect any performance of my iphone 2g? if not i will be very much happy.
about the unlocking problem with the 2g iphone.try this:this work for me 11/13/09 iphone 2g 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n. after bootneuter i had to install afc2add from cydia so i could ssh into iphone, and diskaid trial for my computer to access the root menu through usb. next i went to the bottom menu root>private>var>root>library and made a copy of the lockdown folder to my desktop(just for safety reasons). next i removed the lockdown folder from device(some web sites keeped saying to replace it with another which you could download but that wasnt working for me so i just had to remove the lockdown folder from device and close disk aid). rebooted iphone and it work with my t-mobile sim. hope it helps
Hi guys,
I just updated my iPhone 3G to 3.1.2 and got it jailbroke and unlocked with Blackra1n and Blacksn0w respectively. Works great!!!. Thanks a million to GeoHot.
I am facing only one problem, since I have updated my iPhone to OS 3.x.x the volume in one of the earphone(left) is lesser that the other one. Its doesnt seem to be problem with ear phones bcos I checked it by covering the speakers one by one on iPhone and the problem still persists. Right speakers volume is more than left one. Please verify it carefully.
I have updated to OS 3.1.2 and the problem still persists.
Has anyone came across simillar problem ? any solution ?
Thanks
Simon,
Following on from my earlier comment, you guide says download bootneuter to unlock iphone 2g. I wonder if this actually be bootloader 5.9. Please advise, this is where i may of gone wrong!
i’m just by time to jailbreak this new os but after read some comment, it’s make me scared to complete this jailbreak…..please simon, give some solution first. i had my bad experience with this no network thing….it’s make me keep borrowing others of my friend phone. LOL….Please.
I get a Entry Point Not Found… procedure entry point sqlite3_prepare_v2 could not be located in the dynamic lnk library SQLite3.dll
HELP!
It works! And it took me less than 10 minutes! From restoring to complete unlock! hehe… excited!
–Dennis.
Hi Simon
I managed to get 3.1.2 fw version running on my 2G iphone. I followed the complete guide you provided. Once I upgraded using blackra1n, the first screen appeared after rebooting is Sim Locked, then I slide in and asking to unlock then i entered Sim Card pin number and Message said Pin Number Succeeded. I can make a call, sms, run apps etc without any prob. I went further to check the version and the baseband version. The version is correct 3.1.2(7D11) but the baseband version is 04.05.04_G. Is that expected, or should I get the newer version of the baseband which is 05.11 ?
Cheers!
Hi Simon!
Great work again !
Could you let me know if there is any way i can back up my Cydia apps and stuff before i go for teh 3.1.2 upgrade on the 2G iPhone which is currently on 3.0 firmware,
Help appreciated Thanks again !
Simon – Based on your procedure above you’ve indicated to unlock your 2G you need to download bootnueter from cydia and install it. Without me upgrading to 3.1.2 yet (i am currently using 3.0.1), I checked on the bootnueter version off cydia and what’s available out there is version 2.10, which is from the official Dev team unlocker for 2.0 firmware 2G phone. Is this the right bootnueter version from cydia to use after using blacra1n to upgrade my IPhone to 3.1.2?
update: i decided to take the plunge and do it without waiting for Simon so I ended up using what was out there at cydia (yes using the Dev Team unlocker for 2.0 firmware of 2G phone) and i got myself a jailbroken / unlock 2G for version 3.1.2 – carrier T-Mobile, with a baseband version of 04.05.04_G and not 5.11
@fgabato, for iPhone 2G, the baseband is still 04.05.04, even after OS 3.1.2 upgrade. That’s the reason why you can use bootneuter to unlock it.
@simon – thanks and as usual, thanks for your guidelines.. BTW, any idea or comments on VoIPover3G? it worked before on 3.0.1 but stopped working on 3.1.2
I’ve reinstalled VoIPOver3G and it works again on version 3.1.2
@fgabato, thanks for sharing. Great to see it works again!
hi simon, I had the same result as harisz, after following your excellent instructions, The version on the phone is 3.1.2(7D11) but the baseband version is 04.05.04_G not 5.11?? the jail break instructions worked a treat but when it came to download cydia, the phone tells me to check internet connection. Can you only download cydia using wifi or can you do it through a usb connection via laptop to your modem?? is the problem because of the modem version being 4.5.4. not 5.11.?? please help I am one step away from having a cool phone.
thanks cris
update, I was able to install cydia and bootneuter, (wifi only) the flash worked but when I hit ok it gets stuck on checking settings, If I just hit home button, the phone is not unlocked. My modem version is 4.5.4_g, is this the problem??. I can’t update to 5.11.7. when i use itunes it just tells me I am already updated (3.1.2.) Someone please help me unlock this damm phone,
cris
Simon,
Following your instructions, I’ve downloaded the file in this step:
1. Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware from here and save it into a folder.
Then, I unzipped it. Near the end of the unzipping process I get a window with the following:
Confirm Encryption Lost
Do you want to copy this folder without encryption?
A problem is preventing this folder from being encrypted.
.fseventsd
Then, I get the window four more times for the following folders as well:
Firmware
all_flash
dfu
all_flash.m68ap.production
I’ve redownloaded the file and unzipped it several times. All with the same result.
When I try to restore in the next step, it takes me to the unzipped folder, I always get a message telling me:
No items match your search.
It seems that the file: iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw is not on my computer.
Any clue as to why this happens? Any suggestions? I would appreciate any advice you (or other readers) have. Thanks a lot!
Jeff
jeff, are you using firefox or explorer?? I used firefox and worked fine, when I hit shift restore it open a box for desktop and the file was there. I then just highlighted the file and hit open. I am not techie so not sure if will be of much help,
cris
im using explorer and when i hit open it just keeps going into the sub folders until there is no folders left
Cris
I’m using explorer. I think Tanja and I have the same problem. For some reason, the file is just not appearing…
Jeff
Help im stuck on step 3(i know this sounds silly) i download and when i hold shift key and hit restore it doesnt find the file. i have tried to unzip it aswell and with both it just wanys me to open until it wont insert anything in the open bar. grrrrrr what have i missed
just read Jeffs post same thing for me thats what i meant
Tanja,
If you figure out what the problem is, please post it here and I’ll do the same for you. I have no idea why the file won’t appear.
Jeff
Got it now. The solution is to change .zip to .ipsw. Do not unzip the file. Just rename .zip to .ipsw and it will work.
Woked Perfectly for my iphone 2G awsome i love you geohot!
did you download cydia via wifi or fixed line to unlock??
I keep getting entry point not found thing as nyat did. Someone please answer something because I have gone on alot of sites for the same problem and NO ONE ANSWERS!!! What’s up with that? Where can I go to find the answer?
Simon
iPhone 2g runnning 3.1.2 – Modem firmware 4.5.4G unlock problems
From what i’m gathering you are the main answer guy on this site so THANK YOU! I’m having trouble unlocking my 2g iPhone which was purchased when the iPhone first came about. I updated to the 3.1.2 firmware and have tried the blackra1n to jailbreak (which worked) but the unlock with bootneuter stays at “determining current settings” for about 10 minutes then tells me that my iPhone needs an restore and to contact Apple. after that process my phone stays jailbroken, but still not unlocked. Any ideas on how i can unlock my phone. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks and have a good one.
Simon,
I found that intstalling both Cydia and Rick together from Blackra1n caused major system crashes. Would advsie to instrall Cydia and then add Rock later…
Despite numerous attempts to unlock my 2g on 3.1.2, bootneuter does not work. I received this advice from another blogger:
‘If you can find a mac, use pwnage tool to create a custom ipsw and neuter with pwnage tool and then since you are already jailbroken, just shift+restore(pc) or option+restore(mac) to your custom ipsw with iTunes. I had an issue with a 2g that bootneuter from cydia would not work for it and this is how I got it working.’
Problem is that i don’t have access to a Mac so please can you outline options open to me. Is there anyway of unlocking the phone via windows or is it possible to downgrade back to 3.1 and use the bootloader files. Please advise?
Ok, so I have an iPhone 2G that was running on 2.0.1 firmware. I decided to update to firmware 3.1.2 after browsing the web and seeing how easy people made it seem. I first downloaded the IPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw and went through iTunes to restore and completed all the steps (shift+restore then open ipsw file). Then I ran blackra1n after iTunes was finished and showed the usb connect to iTunes on the phone and ran and rebooted it through the blackra1n. Then intalled cydia and rock through blackra1n app on phone, then installed bootneuter. It updated perfectly, but as I started reading, the ipsw file I used was for an iPhone 3G. I didn’t think anything of it until I tried sending a text message. I can’t send text! I can recieve, but cant send. I also have trouble with sending e-mail and sending mms, it just wont send. So I tried the process all over again, this time with iPhone1,1_3.1.2_Restore.ipsw. I still cant send any messages. Can someone please please help me? Oh, and I’m using a t-mobile sim, I don’t have an at&t one.
having same issues as many above. 2G 3.1.2 jailbreak with blackra1n using itunes 9.0.1. Loaded Cydia and rock. Bootneuter finally allowed me to change settings as described. my phone also locked in the update settings mode of bootneuter but i did a hard reboot and now bootneuter shows proper settings. i changed to a new tmobile sim card and iphone asks to connect to itunes and only allows emrgency calls but shows the tmobile carrier at upper left. when i return the at&t(sorry to even mention at&t) sim card all works but obviously not on tmobile carrier…. what am i missing??
Hi Rick
I have the same problem I can not use other SIM card, did you find the Solution ?
Thank you
Michael
ok everytihng went well UNTIL i went to install Cydia
blackra1n says (please check internet connections err…)
iv tried the reset network settings and reboot stick numerous times to no avail
iphone says its connected to my home wifi but safari just says (connecting…) but never does anything iv let it set there for like an hour and blackra1n says (please check internet connection)
iv been trying for days what should i do?
i want to recieve and make calls on my existing att sim and disable edge
I have an iPhone 2G and have been curious but nervous to jailbreak since I bought my phone Mar 2008. I read about the latest version being available, so I decided to go ahead and jailbreak yesterday. I am telling you that it was EASY! I was afraid of not being able to still use my downloaded apps that I’ve paid for, texts, notes, contacts, etc. Just make sure to do a backup on itunes prior to jailbreaking as it states to do, just in case. I was so excited that it worked! I was up all night going through Cydia changing themes/colors/icons, etc. It is SO fun and worth downloading. I don’t know why I didn’t do this a year ago! Take a chance, follow the instructions, and enjoy! THANK YOU for having this jailbreak for iPhone 2G!
Oh and all of my apps, notes, texts, contacts were all still on my phone! It looks the same as before jailbreaking, just added app for blackra1n on the last screen. Click on that and download Cydia, then you’re good to go!
Dear Simon,
i did try to unlock my iphone and each time i open it i get a picture to connect my iphone to i tuness with a cd picture and music sign, i bought my iphone from at&t, would you please get back to me with advise, is there anything i can do to unlock my iphone, i would appreciate your feedback asap. thanks
@wael, are you using iPhone 2G or 3G/3GS?
I found a solution. I did everything with the 2g 3.1.2 firmware to unlock it but the bootneuter didnt work. SO:
Plug into computer and do a DFU restore (refer to google on how)
In itunes w/ phone connected hit SHIFT (KEY ON KEYBOARD) + RESTORE, and select the 3.0 .ispw (FIND it on google somewhere)
Then run REDSNOW 0.7.2 for WIN or MAC
Continue as instructed. Make sure you hit CYDIA and UNLOCK, not ICY.
Once redsnow is done. After reboot. I just put in a TMOBILE sim card and i got service no problems, works perfectly!!!!!!!!!!
Hi chris, can yo tell me if your iPhone had a Modem firmware of 4.5.4G when you unlocked it using above technique?? Seems this firmware is causing lots of people unlock issues.
thanks cris
i also have 4.05.4G firmware. hoping to get my tmobile sim card installed tonight and will try your method. when i put the tmobile card in now only allowed emergency call and asks to connect to itunes.
anyone know of a visual voice mail app on cydia or elsewhere that i can install after the tmobile sim.. i think the VVM goes away?
rick, when i started and did bootneuter, i had service but was stuck in that screen with the ask to connect to itunes and only allowing emergency calls but this worked for me.
Hey cris, i am not sure what firmware the phone was before. but i know it was never jailbroken or unlocked and had the latest 3.1.2 update. So whatever the stock firmware would have been was what it was.
this did not work with firmware 04.05.04_G, read somewhere to try install snow to unlock??.
still struck on this firmware
@cris, what settings did you use in bootneuter? blacksn0w will not work for iPhone 2G but for iPhone 3G/3GS only.
Hi Chris,
Will test your method tonight. Bootneuter does not work on my 2g…
UK users can now offically get thier phone unlocked from O2 for £15. see link. Will go for that me thinks so that there are no future issues.

Dear Simon,
I am using 3GS, firmware 3.1.2, 5/11/07, would you please respond ASAP, thanks
@wael, please follow this jailbreak guide and jailbreak your iPhone again.
Amazing! GeoHot is the best. 30 seconds and done!
Thanks for the great post! I get to fix the youTube problem. but the Notes app is not working. Everytime I write a new note and click done, the app closes without saving my note. Is there a patch to fix this? Many thanks!
uugh this is driving me mental!!! lol
ive spent maybe 7 days now trying to get my misus sim to work in the 2g iphone that for some reason stopped recognizing her sim card. i have tried everything from ziphone to kiphone (for baseband downgrade) to blackra1n to bootneuter!!! with no luck….at the moment i am on jailbroken fw 3.1 (via pwnage tool custom ipsw) and the baseband annoyingly is still at 04.05.04_G and bootneuter doesnt work as suggested (tried both installing through cydia/neutering directly via custom ipsw during jailbreak)….i am at this point open to suggestion if any one has any ideas?
NB: i came across some information that mentioned the bootneuter unlock only works if you had neutered the phone prior to fw upgrade previously…….i cant remember if i did this for my misus……have done various unlocks/jailbreaks in past without much problem…..still bright side is i have an ipod touch now….. ;(
sam
sam, try my method that i posted yesterday. bootneuter doesnt really work. just refer to my post and its easy and you dont need to mess with bootneuter at all.
dear simon,
please help iv been posting on numerous websites and noone seems to care to help
i dont know what the problem with the process is…
everytihng went well UNTIL i went to install Cydia
blackra1n says (please check internet connections err…)
iv tried the reset network settings and reboot stick numerous times to no avail
iphone says its connected to my home wifi but safari just says (connecting…) but never does anything iv let it set there for like an hour and blackra1n says (please check internet connection)
iv been trying for days what should i do?
i want to recieve and make calls on my existing att sim and disable edge
Just one point missing form the (brilliant) instructions. How, and at which point, do you restore your apps store apps/contacts etc? Thanks. Mike
@Mike,
Actually, you can sync your iPhone data with iTunes after completing step 10. But if you need to unlock your iPhone, I suggest you to complete the whole process before restoring your iPhone data (e.g. contacts, sms, etc)
Hi Simon.
Your instruction were very clear, simple and concise. Followed them and it worked great. Thanks. Just one question though, my iPhone 2G was already unlocked after step 10, without having to download Bootneuter from Cydia. Why is that?? Thanks
@Tom John,
Did you jailbreak and unlock your iPhone before? From my test, if the iPhone 2G has been unlocked, it’ll be kept unlocked even after blackra1n jailbreak. That’s probably why your iPhone is unlocked after step 10. So, you can skip the bootnueter unlock procedures.
Hey I have a 2g iPhone where the chat for facebook app stop working., so I got it upgrade to a 3.1.2 (7D11)..’ now the YouTube & the chat for facebook doesn’t work it keep saying am off line when some1 try to reply…:(
@DwAyne, did you try the YouTube fix?
Simon!!
I was able to unlock it but when i put the T-mobile sim card it locks the phone and asked me to connect to itunes to set up as a new phone i need help
simon sir plz help me out..
i had download iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware,
but while updating it with the shift key pressed i cant find the file iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw,,what to do..
where should i search for that file,..
plz help me out..
@mynk,
Some browsers may mis-recognize the .ipsw file and save it as .zip file. You may look into the folder you save the firmware file and rename the .zip file to .ipsw. Or you can use Firefox to download the .ipsw file again.
simon, i tried chris’s methods above but still unable to have my 2G 3.1.2 respond to the tmobile sim card. i blackra1n and bootneuter with the att sim card installed, and the 2G is unlocked per opening bootneuter again and seeing all settings exactly as the screenshot. however, when i change the sim card to tmobile i still get the emergency phone only. i lose visual voice mail so i know the tmobile sim card is recognized but it is unusable and i cannot open it to find apps. when i put the att back in everything works i just have to reset password for visual voice mail.
answer this one when i open black ra1n it says SQLite3.dll entry point error wtf!?!?!?! i have no clue what to do and neither does anyone else it seems ive tried downloading it straight to the c drive and opening it and nothing helppp
this work for me 11/13/09 iphone 2g 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n. after bootneuter i had to install afc2add from cydia so i could ssh into iphone, and diskaid trial for my computer to access the root menu through usb. next i went root>private>var>root>library and made a copy of the lockdown folder to my desktop(just for safety reasons). next i removed the lockdown folder from device(some web sites keeped saying to replace it with another which you could download but that wasnt working for me so i just had to remove the lockdown folder from device and close disk aid). rebooted iphone and it work with my t-mobile sim. hope it helps
Hi mKLOVN
Could you please elaborate more of what did you do after installing afc2add from Cydia , i did not find it after installtion ? and how did you remove the lockdown from device?
afc2add is just a program that lets u ssh into iphone,(i dont happen to know what ssh means) and its not really an app u can open. but once installed u have to open diskaid with ur iphone connected to computer and u should see the menus of ur iphone. look through the folders root>private>var>root>library and find the lockdown folder click once on it and then click on the delete from device tab. reboot and it should work. ive tried it on 2 2g iphones with 3.1.2. let me know if u need further details.
Hi mklovn
what do you mean by (open diskaid with ur iphone connected to computer)?how do you do this .
and you should see the menuus of ur i phone?
is this done through i tone ? or just by connecting my iphone to my computer a folder will open up ?
thank you
google diskaid on ur computer(they have a free trial version). install and run program. connect iphone to computer and the rest should make sense.(as per previous posts)
Hi Mklovn,
Sounds brilliant… I have to go back to 3.0 as per Chris post but will try ssh into iphone to acheive unlock… Weish me luck.
Spelling and bad grammar abound… Done in a hurry nonetheless… haha LOL
Mklovn,
You are a Star!
I removed the lock down folder using shh and and am now back on track
My 2G is now on 3.1.2 and i’m unlocked…
Thanks for your advice…
Hey guys,
Can all those for whom removing the lockdown folder works let me know what baseband thier on? Has it worked for anyone on baseband 04.05.04_G? It’s this baseband that seems to be giving alot of problems at the moment, especially if bootneuter doesn’t work for you like it didn’t for me!! It also seems neigh on impossible to downgrade the baseband on 3g!
Sorry i ment 2g at the end there
i honestly dont know what baseband my iphone has or even how to check it. wish i could help.

after a month i was restore my iphone to itunes 9.0 and the result become worst. My iphone was unjailbroken and trying to jailbreak again using blackrain but it doeasnt work anymore.. On the iphone screen, the only appear was the usb cable arrow pointing to itunes.
how can i bring back its normal function? iphone 2G 3.1.2.. pls help what to do and what jailbreak tool should i use since blackra1n cant resolve or bring back my iphone 2G 3.1.2 anymore after restore it into itunes 9.0.
u might wanna look under unbricking an iphone on youtube or trying itunes and blackra1n on another computer
Hi Sam,
My 2g iphone is on 3.1.2 firmware and baseband 04.05.04_G…
I had the same problem with bootneuter, not unlocking for unofficial carrier so went back temporarily to 3.0 but on seeing Mklovn’s post last night, decided to have one more attempt and it worked a treat..
Just Install Openshh from Cydia and you need open source on your PC. I use winscp (windows secure copy). With this you should be able to shh into the iphone and delete the Lockdown folder. Save a copy to somewhere, just in case.
Once done reboot phone and check unofficial sim, you can then restore backup from itunes and hey presto.
The process is so simple…
Respect to Mklovn here for his perseverance in finding a solution for the issue and letting us all know about it… That old Nokia is back in the drawer.
Cheers Fella
sir i had some confusion,
i updated with firmware 3.1.2 easily..
and jail broken successfully..
since i m using an unofficial sim to it must b locked but,,i think its not..
coz all the icons i see there and i can easily make call and recive it..
so whts to do sir..
should i download bootneuter, whats tha use of this bootneuter..
sir i will b very gr8full to u for ur help..
bootneuter is so you can use unofficial sim cards so i dont think you need to install bootneuter if all the icons are there and you can make calls.
Everytime i download a ISPW or restore file the file always come in like 7 files and about 3 of them are .dmg files and the rest are kernel or folders or .fseventsd and a 1.8 kb restore quick time file
@Daniel, try to download the IPSW file using Firefox. It can download the firmware file properly.
i just tried restoring and i got error code (23)
if you wanna go that route. keep looking around for the right ipsw file(i say that because i had the same problem)with the right ipsw file there no unzipping needed, its just one file with a white box and something blue on the box. for what its worth, i would seriously recomend restoring with itune’s normal restore proccess and follow the instruccion at the top of the page on jailbreaking with blackra1n and using bootneuter.
Hi Simon:
Thanks for the help and hats off for this simple process.
I went through the steps and successfully upgraded my 2G (with 3.0 already jailbroken and unlocked) to 3.1.2 using blackrain. I didn’t encounter any problems and it hardly took 2-3 mins.
One small tip to bloggers: If your iphone (2G) is already unlocked, then you don’t have to continue after step 10.
-MK.
That is good news!
let me clarify that you upgraded your 2G ,3.0 OS that already jailebraked and unlocked that you use it with other sim cards such Tmoble just by upgrading to 3.1.2 through blackra1n file that is listed above :
Upgrade your iPhone to OS 3.1.2
1. Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware from here ( iphone1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.zIP )
Thanks
Absolutely correct in that statement:
“One small tip to bloggers: If your iphone (2G) is already unlocked, then you don’t have to continue after step 10.”
I have been doing the unlock game since I got my original iPhone, & this method by far has been the easiest
If I have an original 2g iphone & I’m with att….can I just update to 3.1.2 & then jailbreak it just like I did with my 3gs? if so that would rock because it works great on my 3gs….let me know…thnx in advance!!!
Hi I live in Mexico, and i unlocked and jailbreaked without ever having to install cythia, good luck to everyone
Yess success!! it works.. thank u so much…
Hi all!
Exciting stuff!!! Went thru it all and it all worked absolutely fine….ish!
Got to the Bootneuter step and it worked but on reboot, it is still not accepting my UK Three network sim card on my iphone 8g. I have also tried the method of the removing the lockdown folder, that made it worst and it said my phone was locked. Thanksfully i had a back up so i restored it and i can now get access to the phone again. I dont know if there is an issue with this, but the phone was originally on a french Orange contract.
I now have: ‘Searching…’ at the top left corner when i put my 3 sim card.
Details: iphone 8g with a silver back
Version: 3.1.2 (7D11)
Carrier: Orange France 5.0
Model: MB346F
Network: Not available
HEEEELLLLLPPPPP
I have been trying to make this work for 20 days now…i am on the the edge!
Thanks
Manu
3 network is the only carrier of the british networks that is not compatible with any of the unlock procedures, When I originally bought mine (already jailbroken and unlocked) I was told that 3 network would not work with the iphone under any circumstances, this was 2 years ago) as far as im aware this is still the case. Your only option is to switch to another network if you wish to continue using your iphone. (you may want to research this before taking my word for it as things may have changed with all the latest unlocking tools but as im on vodafone I have no reason to keep abreast of the situation).

I’ve followed all your instructions to the letter downloading firmware 3.1.2 on baseband 04.05.04g and iTunes 9.0.02.
I’ve downloaded blackrain, cydia and bootneuter all successfully.
I’ve had all my actions checked and verified by a computer wizz kid but my 2g iPhone still remains locked.
I’m at my wits end and at 60 years old my wits unfortunately are conspicuous by their absense.
Your help would be appreciated.
If you can help, please converse in user friendly language.
