Big News! GeoHot Will Soon Release the iPhone 3.1.2 Unlock

Finally, there is a breakthrough for iPhone OS 3.1.2 unlock. It’s a long wait for those who accidentally upgraded to iPhone OS 3.1.2 (with baseband 05.11.07) and lose the unlock. I got tons of emails asking about the status and the possibility of unlocking baseband 05.11.07. Previously, my usual answer is there is no way to unlock that version of baseband.

But here is the big news!

Several hours ago, GeoHot confirmed he has developed the unlock solution for baseband 05.11.07 that comes with iPhone OS 3.1.x. He will bundle the unlock solution into blackra1n, the famous 30-second jailbreak tool for iPhone OS 3.1.2. As scheduled, the new update of blackra1n will be publicly available on November 4.

To prove his work, he also posted a video demonstrating the unlock:

Same as the earlier version of Blackra1n, you can expect both Windows and Mac platforms are supported. At last, Windows users can have an official jailbreak & unlock tool to upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.2.

So, only 3 more days to go! Stay tuned and I’ll keep you update when the software is released.

GeoHot does not explicitly mention about the details. But you can expect it can unlock all models of iPhones.

Please ignore my previous answer. For iPhone 2G, you can use bootneuter to unlock it. The baseband version is not updated for iPhone 2G. So, bootneuter will work. You can download bootneuter via cydia.

Just to clarify, should we update to firmware 3.1.2 via itunes and then use the Blackra1n and Geohot method (to be relaeased) to jailbreak and unlock?
