I know many of you (esp. those who accidentally upgrade to firmware 3.1.2) are waiting for an unlock solution to unlock baseband 05.11.07, which comes with iPhone OS 3.1 or up. Here is a good news. George Hotz (aka GeoHot), the creater of blackra1n, has given some hints on his blog suggesting that there will be an unlock solution for the baseband. He has posted a screenshot showing he can run arbitrary code on the baseband.
Hopefully, the next version of blackra1n can jailbreak and unlock iPhone OS 3.1.2. Despite GeoHot doesn’t give any specific timeline for the update, we can expect the ultimate unlock solution for all version of iPhone will be available very soon.
For those who do not heard of GeoHot, he is the guy who developed the first unlock solution for the original iPhone 2G. Recently, he also created a 30-second jailbreak tool called blackra1n to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2.
For now, if you have accidentally upgraded to iPhone OS 3.1.2 via iTunes, you may try to downgrade the baseband from 05.11.07 to 04.26.08 using Fuzzyband.
I’ll keep you update about the release. Stay tuned.
