iPhone Tip: How to Change iPhone Carrier Name Using FakeCarrier

by Simon Ng on October 28, 2009

fakecarrier-logoEarlier, I got an interesting question from a blog reader. His question is:

I’m using a jailbroken iPhone. Any iPhone hack available to customize or change the carrier name?

The release of FakeCarrier is an answer to the question. FakeCarrier, available via Cydia, is an iPhone hack that lets you change the carrier name. You can set the carrier name to whatever you like. Despite it’s named as FakeCarrier, the app also allows you to show the battery level as percentage.

Before you install FakeCarrier, make sure your iPhone meets the below requirements:

  • Your iPhone is already jailbroken and with cydia installed.
  • Your iPhone should be running iPhone OS 3.0 or up. (Note: Don’t install the hack if you’re using firmware 2.x.)

Okay, let’s get started and you can follow these procedures to use FakeCarrier:

1. Launch Cydia

2. Tap “Search” and key in “FakeCarrier” to look up the app.

3. Tap on “FakeCarrier” and select “Install”, followed by “Confirm”.

4. Once the installation completes, a “Carrier” icon appears on the iPhone home screen.

5. Tap “Carrier” to launch FakeCarrier.

6. Tap “Fake Carrier” and type in any carrier name you like. Then hit the “Set” button and the carrier name changes automatically.

On top of changing carrier name, the app also allows you to show battery level in percentage.

If you also want to customize the carrier name, remember to check out FakeCarrier and leave us comment to share your thought on the application.

There’s an applications i’ve been using since long called ‘makeitmine’ which does exactly this plus also customizes the banner to whatever you like.

The battery percentage is also available as part of Sbsettings, so no new value there.

But thanks for letting us all know.
