Earlier, Google released an update for Google Sync that adds push email support for Gmail. I already switch to use push email and it’s really great. For now, I do not need to wait for iPhone to download my email. Whenever someone sends email to my Gmail account, iPhone will vibrate and sound an alert chime to notify me about the new email. And, it’s right there when I open the Mail app.
However, some users mentioned they may not notice the vibration or sound alert. The best is Google can deliver the Push notification feature in the next version. Actually, you do not need to wait for the update of Google Sync. Tiverias Apps has already debut an iPhone app called GPush to bring push notification for Gmail.
The application is very simple and only focus on one thing – deliver push notification for Gmail on your iPhone. When an email arrives your iPhone, GPush informs you with a notification. GPush comes with a number of notification options including vibration, sound alert, display the email message on the standby screen just like an SMS, or simply have the GPush icon show how many new messages are unread.

Install and Configure GPush
It’s very easy to configure GPush to work with Gmail. Simply fill in your Gmail username and password in GPush. That’s it. Now, as soon as your iPhone receives a new email from Gmail, you’ll get notified by GPush.

GPush is now available on App Store for US$1.99 and you can click this direct iTunes link to purchase it. If you can’t wait for Google to deliver the push notification feature, GPush is a great application to pair with Gmail on iPhone.

For those reading this looking for a great push mail app for the iPhone:
I have been using GPush since the day it came out and just 2 days ago bought a different app called “Mail Notifier”.
It is much better than Gpush, it allows for unlimited accounts to be pushed (GPush only allows 1) and the accounts can be GMail (incl Google Apps accounts), Hotmail and Yahoo.
It costs slightly more, but is very well worth the extra money (and this is coming from someone who has used BOTH apps extensively!)
Just thought I’d chime in here..
Nice article nevertheless.

@Jannis, thanks for your tip. I’ll definitely take a look at your suggested app.
