SmartScreen Adds Widgets to iPhone Lock Screen

iPhone Lock ScreenWhat feature do you want Apple to build into the next version of iPhone OS?

For me, I’d like Apple to revamp the iPhone lock screen. For now, the lock screen does nothing except showing the current date/time and your favorite wallpaper. But as an iPhone user, we want to make the most out of the lock screen. Say, show us today’s appointment or display the stock quote we keep track.

You do not need to wait for Apple to develop the feature if you own a jailbroken iPhone. On Friday, MediaPhone announced a new iPhone application called “SmartScreen” that allows you to add informational widgets onto the lock screen. Widgets are very similar to those apps offered by Apple and they can be rearranged on the lock screen by simply “tap and hold to move” action.

To learn more about SmartScreen, check out the video and see it in action. It looks pretty great.

SmartScreen is not available for download yet and scheduled to released to public in November. The application supports all models of iPhone, as long as it’s jailbroken.

It’s not the only application that tries to revamp the lock screen. There are already a number of iPhone apps out there for jailbroken iPhone via Cydia such as IntelliScreen or Lock Calendar. But SmartScreen is highly customizable and it also comes with a development kit for developer to build creative widgets.

I’ll keep you update on the release of SmartScreen. Stay tuned.
