As promised, AT&T rolled out the MMS feature for iPhone, that allows you to send multimedia message (e.g. photos) to another phone, on Sep 25.
To enable the MMS feature, you’ll need to download a carrier update (v5.5) via iTunes and ensure your iPhone has been upgraded to iPhone 3.1. As mentioned by Apple, this feature is only supported on the latest iPhone OS.
Once you install the carrier update, restart your iPhone. When started, go to Messages and you’ll see a new camera button. Enjoy sending out your first MMS on iPhone!

For details about enabling MMS on AT&T, you can further check out Apple’s support page.

I’m very surprised that there hasn’t been a WARNING, Simon. To get the new MMS from AT&T, you HAVE to upgrade to OS 3.1 so basically if you have a jailbroken phone, you can’t get the MMS feature. Is ANYONE working on a jailbreak solution for Windows for 3.1? Originally it was said that it’s coming but it’s been quite soem time now. If so, will there a easy guide for us with jailbroken phones who now have lots of apps & need to restore everything once we are on 3.1?
I simply downloaded the new ipcc file and now my jailbroken 3.0 phone has mms working perfectly. There is a tutorial on the mac rumors site.
I link to the Mac Rumors site might help.
@Robert, thanks for the tips!
