Are you using a jailbroken iPhone? Probably, you may wonder how many iPhone users are owning a jailbroken iPhone?

According to Pinch Media, as of Jul 26, 2009, 8.43% of the total iPhone population is using on jailbroken iPhone. For starter, Pinch Media a provider of analytics services for advertisers and developers on iPhone applications.

I do not know the exact number of jailbroken iPhone users but 8.43% is definitely not a very big figure. However, the company also mentioned the jailbroken iPhone user is rising. In just a week before it announced the figure, the percentage of jailbroken iPhone user has been risen from 8% to 8.43%.

Are you one of them using jailbroken iPhone? What’s the main reason you jailbreak the iPhone? I believe you have some good reasons for the move. Leave us comment and share your experience with other readers.

I jailbroke my iphone so that i could mainly, use all the apps apple rejected for the apple app store.

Worked great for me, seems like a small percentage though, only 8%.

I run my jailbroken iPhone 3GS 32GB mostly because Apple’s restriction on AppStore apps basically means that truely innovative apps that actually ADD to the functionality of the iphone (not just use the preexisting ones in a new UI) are not allowed.
Cydia/Icy/Installer all have a bunch of apps that Apple would never approve (or has rejected) but are simply hard to live without once you have gotten a taste for them.

Also let’s not forget, I love my iPhone BUT the iPhone while pretty is a bad phone functionality wise: until recently it couldn’t send MMS and there still is no way to write/read SMS via a computer screen/keyboard over bluetooth which has been a basic function on all my previous Sony Ericsson phones from 5-6 years ago!

Last but not least, Apple’s strategy to never discuss/divulge any kind of information about future software features (such as proper bluetooth support for SMS (for example)) mean that there is virtually no timeline that would help me decide to either jailbreak OR wait for the official feature to come out. In fact until now Apple has not even acknowledged that these bluetooth shortcomings even exist, so there really is no trust between the consumer and apple that they might be developing said features.

3rd party devs in comparison have the know how and are the opposite of apple: They involve the community of users. Thus my vote goes to Cydia and all the 3rd party devs!

i jailbroke my phone coz i live in a place were the phone is not yet officially launched and i feel its really not fait to all the people that this great phone is not launched universally and made available to everyone, and given a choice for people to decide whether to buy or not….but guess Apple seems bit more concenrned on the markets that can make them profit and not really keen in providing their products to everyone all over the world…

I dont know why this strategy….maybe its business….but at the cost of customers like me…..who would love to have bought the official phone from here…

Again…jailbraking….it really makes me think and wonder why app store is really like a big brother…and overseeing and scrutinizing everything…..many great apps are being rejected and many people want customization which apple is totally against…..i dont have a clue why….each and every person is unique…wont the world become a boring place if everyone had a same looking phone with the looking interface and same apps…..

I like to be different …and being one among the 8.43% it makes me even feel better coz i feel we jailbreakers are standing out from the crowd…heheheeh

but i love my phone and the innovations…but do not approve for the restrictions being put on consumers…..its like we spend our hard earned money and buy the phone from apple but it still feels like the phone belongs to apple and not us…jailbreaking is like freeing ur phone from apple and making it OURS!

And Simon, ur website is like a boon for people like me..with valid and up to the mark info…just keep on going dude!!
