About a month ago, I have covered a hack using SBSettings to show battery meter in percentage on iPhone 3G & 2G. Another iPhone developer, David Ashman, has created an alternative hack to offer finer control over the battery status. The hacked application is called “Battery Control” and it is now available on Cydia for free download.

Same as the hack provided by SBSettings, Battery Control allows you to show iPhone battery life in percentage. Originally, this feature is only appeared on iPhone 3GS. Thanks for all the iPhone hackers to bring this feature to iPhone 2G & 3G. What’s more is Battery Control offers an option for you to hide the battery status icon and free up more room for other status icons. This feature has been requested by quite a number of iPhone users and finally Battery Control makes it happen. Now, you have four choices to select how iPhone battery status is displayed:

  • Show both battery status icon and percentage
  • Show the battery status icon only (i.e. the default setting)
  • Show the battery life in percentage only
  • Hide both of them

To use Battery Control, you can launch Cydia and search for “Battery Control”. Once you install it, you can go to “Settings” and tap “Battery Control” to fine tune the battery icon.

Settings - Battery Control

Note: Battery Control is for iPhone 3.0 ONLY. If you’re using lower version, you may consider to upgrade to 3.0.
