@Jenzy3, for firmware 3.1.2, you need to use PwnageTool 3.1.4. Check out <a href="http://www.simonblog.com/2009/10/14/pwnagetool-v3-1-4-released-to-jailbreak-iphone-3-1-2-for-mac/" rel="nofollow">this post</a> for details.

Hi Simon!

I was waiting for OS3.1 to be released and didn't do the upgrade to 3.01 earlier. So, now that I read there are so many problems with the OS 3.1 plus the jailbreak for 3.1 Windows is not out yet, I'm gonna go ahead with 3.01. But, the problem is my iTunes is still at version 8.02 and v8.2 is not available anymore! Can I upgrade to v9.01 then jailbreak my phone using OS3.01? Thanks a bunch!

Thanks a bunch Simon! My notes:
Had an account w ATT, Skyhigh bill, closing account,
Read these tutorials but the pwnge program didn't work on my system..
It worked until step #11 i think... whichever is the actual build process.. Locked up pwnage crashed repeatedly.
Bcuz of using an older IMac??
I have a 1.8 GHz Power PC G5
1GB DDR OS X Version 10.5.8
My Iphone is an 8GB 3G version 3.01
I finally went out an bought a wireless router. You need
RedSn0w worked after trying to enter DFU mode several several times..
But that lil program is great! I think it helped to go thru pwnge
even though it didn't work in my case.. bcuz I understood the concept better.
Great info on here its definitely key to read through the comments.
Much thanks for laying it out so good!
Another important part for me was to Restore the phone to factory settings first
take out the AT&T Sim & install the Other Sim.. Temporarily T-Mobile til I figure out best plan.
Can we use GPS on any plan with Data?
Ok good luck IPhoners!! Now to explore cydia.. crazy style!
This stuff makes u feel like a scientist! thanks to the DevTeam and all others that
supply these tools & knowledge to the people!
Peace!!

Ok, I followed this step by step and my iphone got completely fucked... "Your iPhone may be damaged and cannot be activated. We recommend visiting your nearest iPhone store..."

Tried re-virginizing by pressing home+sleep buttons, and it failed to restore to factory settings.

WTF!!

@joanne, they are correct. But I think you can skip step 2 and directly restore to firmware 3.0.1.

Hi Simon,

My iPhone 3G is currently running on OS2.2.1 and I'm ready to upgrade to OS3.01. Would really appreciate it if you verify if these are the steps that I need to perform:

1) Upgrade iTunes to v8.2
2) Restore to OS3.0
3) Connect to iTunes and update to OS3.01
4) jailbreak via RedSn0w v0.8.

Thanks!

[Help !! I can't jailbreak my iphone in firmware 3.0.1]

Condition:
- Iphone: 3GS, Firmware 3.0.1, factory unlocked
- Itune 8.0, redsn0w 0.8

As noticed, firmware is already latest. Thus, i skipped to update the firmware using iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw. Then, I use redsn0w 0.8 for jailbreaking. It hang at process No.13 “Waiting for reboot” (And I’ve waited several hours), and never completed the jailbreak process.

Note: I try the initial step as well, i.e. to “shift+restore” using the iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw, but itune even stated that it’s not compatible.
What shall I do? Appreciate advice from you guys.

Thank you.

Regards,
David

I just jailbroke my phone (thanks to your site for all the useful info). Before jailbreaking, I already had 3.0.1 - after jailbreak it says I have 3.0 in settings....Do i need to upgrade to 3.0.1 in iTunes again, then do the jailbreak process again?
