Yesterday, Apple released an update for iTunes. The new iTunes 8.2.1 provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices.

According to MacRumor, in addition to bug fixes, it turns out this release is target to stop Palm Pre from syncing with iTunes:

“iTunes 8.2.1 is a free software update that provides a number of important bug fixes,” says Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris. “It also disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre. As we’ve said before, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with unsupported digital media players.”

Palm PreConsider as the number one competitor of iPhone, Palm Pre, when it was first debuted, comes with an ability to sync songs or other medias via Apple’s iTunes. With the release of iTunes 8.2.1, however, this sync feature does no longer work on Palm Pre.

So, how about jailbreak? Does the upgrade of iTunes 8.2.1 break jailbreak?

From my early testing on Mac, it does not break jailbroken iPhone. You can still sync with iTunes. However, if you’re planning to jailbreak your iPhone with PwnageTool or Redsn0w, please hold off the upgrade until iPhone Dev team gives the green light. Stay tuned.
