Boost Your iPhone Volume with Volume Boost

by Simon Ng on July 14, 2009

Some readers told me that even they turn the ringer volume to maximum, the speaker is still not loud enough. I suggest you to try out Volume Boost to boost your iPhone speaker volume.

Volume Boost is a Cydia application that works only on jailbroken iPhone and supports firmware 2.2, 2.2.1 & 3.0.

Installing Volume Boost

The installation is very straightforward. Simply launch Cydia and search for “Volume Boost”. The application requires Winterboard for activation. So if you do not have Winterboard, Cydia will also install it for you.

Volume Boost for iPhone 3.0

After installation, Cydia will automatically reboot your iPhone. To enable volume boost, launch Winterboard and tap on “Volume Boost 3.0″. Then click HOME button to activate the volume boost. You’ll have to wait for 20 – 30 seconds for Winterboard to refresh.

Enable Volume Boost via Winterboard

From my test on iPhone 3.0, the Volume Boost only increases the speaker volume slightly but it does boost the volume of your headset. If you experience speaker volume issue, try to test this out and let us know if it works for you.

Hey Simon, have u tried this yet? or are u going to?
I noticed on FW 1.x.x and 2.x.x that installing the volume increase never made a difference to me, im curious if 3.x.x will. Let me know if u try or anyone else.

Cheers!

Hey Luis

Did u try it on 2G, 3G or 3GS?
3GS will NOT work, well thats what I have found.

*Note: Do not install on the 3GS, because the audio is already set to 100%.*

Can it boost the volume from the dock connector?

I have used it with 3.0 OS …it doesn’t make any remarkable difference neither it boosts the speaker nor the headphones…Simon, do you have any more ideas??

The hack does not work for all iPhones. From my test, out of 4 iPhones, only two of them work. There is a manual way to increase the volume value. I will post the details later and you can give it a shot.

iyer….there is only 1 speaker on the iPhone. The left side is the speaker, and the right side is the microphone (i think).

all those volume boost do not work.
I just discovered the easiest fix.
install “alarm clock free” set the
alarm volume to the max.
test the alarm.
you should notice much louder speaker.

So I’ve tried this, as well as many other “Boosters” and have not yet been able to make it work. I took a screenshot of recording the audio with an external mic. The top waveform is the stock iPhone 3G “MAX” volume. The bottom waveform is iPhone 3G + Winterboard’s Volume Boost 3.1.2 software applied, and the phone completely powered down and re-booted. I saw and heard no difference.
