Back in May, in the graduation ceremony of Carnegie Mellon University, Google CEO, Eric Schmidt was invited to deliver the commencement speech. In his speech, he advised the graduates to stay away from computer (for a while) and even turn off the cellphone, and try to discover all that is human around us:
In a world where everything is remembered and kept forever, you should live for the future and the things you really care about… And what are those things? To figure this out you need to actually turn off your computer. I know this is difficult. You need to turn off your phone. You need to actually look at the people who are near you and around you and decide that it is humans who ultimately are the most important things to us and not the other aspects.
In a world that communications are dominated by mobile, email, instant message, SMS, video conferencing and social media such as Facebook, MySpace & Twitter, I totally agree with Mr. Schmidt’s message. No communication is better than we meet with our friends face-to-face. You have to discover and experience the world around you. As he also said, “Nothing beats holding the hand of your grandchild as he walks his first steps.”
I’m not old enough to have a grandchild. But I’m so lucky that I can hold the hand of my wife and celebrate our anniversary. I’ll take a short break, stay away from my computer with my iPhone turned off and experience the world with my lovely wife.
I know, iPhone 3.0 and iPhone 3G S are going to release very soon. After my short break, I’ll keep you update on the release and of course, the jailbreak of iPhone 3.0. But don’t forget to come back to check out the blog, I’ve prepared a series of articles for you. So, stay tuned.
