A friend of mine asked me to recommend a good twitter client for iPhone. I have tried several Twitter clients such as Twitterific and TwitterFon before. Among all Twitter clients that I have tried, I’ll pick Tweetie as the best Twitter client on iPhone to post update and follow your friends on Twitter.
Not only you can connect to a Twitter account, Tweetie allows you to register multiple accounts and you can easily switch between them. The interface of Tweetie is very intuitive and simple to use. Once you launch Tweetie, you can view all the new tweets that you follow. Simply tap “Mentions” or “Messages” section, Tweetie will only show those tweets or messages direct to you. You can also check out the favorite tweets if you have ever flagged.

Write a New Tweet
No matter you’re viewing your friends’ tweet or direct message, the “Tweet” icon is also available at the top navigation bar. Simply tap the icon to start a new tweet. Tweetie also allows you to easily add your location as a shorten URL and upload pictures to TwitPic.

Reply and ReTweet
Tweetie offers you two ways to reply a tweet. Tap a tweet will bring you to a new screen that offers options to reply a tweet, repost a tweet/link or mark the tweet as your favorite. If you prefer to a quicker way to reply the tweet, simple swipe from left to right on any tweet. Tweetie will show you shortcut icons to reply a tweet or flag it as favorite.

More Options
The “More” section provides several options to play around with Twitter. You can view your profile or other’s profile. Tweetie even offers a feature to search for nearby Twitter users. You can also access Twitter trends and perform custom searches.

View User Profile
In “More” option, you can always access your profile. In user profile, Tweetie shows your profile description, number of followers and country you come from. It also lets you view your followers and those you’re following just like you’re using the Twitter.com website. If you’re viewing your friends or other’s profile, Tweetie provides both “Public Reply” and “Direct Message” buttons to let you directly communicate with your friends. It also allows you to follow or stop following in the same interface.

Settings
You may probably wonder how you can customize Tweetie (say, change the font size). The configuration option is not located inside the app. But you can find detailed configuration options in the general Settings screen. Tweetie allows you to change the font size, theme (e.g. show tweets in bubble layout), screen name and enable landscape keyboard. You can also configure the image service and image compression ratio.

Conclusion
From what I have experienced, Tweetie is the most full-featured Twitter client for iPhone and iPod Touch. Nearly any feature you can find on Twitter’s web, you can find it on Tweetie. Tweetie is now available on App Store and offered at US$2.99. I know there are a number of free Twitter clients. But for just $3, you can get a feature-rich twitter client that lets you tweet everywhere and follow your friends’ tweet. It’s worth to buy the app especially you’re a serious Twitter user. To download, you can simply click this direct iTunes link. You’ll love this app!

Tweetie is def the best I found out of the twitter apps, I actually have a two on my Iphone, both Tweetie and Twitteriffic. The only thing I wish tweetie would add is the Bird sound effect when new tweets post. I just think its cute and fun lol (i know its completely stupid and superficial but its funny and cute
It’s great. I am looking forward to push coming with OS3.0 next week
Wonder how long it will take for tweetie to add push support?

Ok… i love tweetie.. but one question i HAVE to ask – how do you get that keyboard!?
@graham, it’s a Winterboard themed with Storm keyboard. Check out the details here.
I like Tweetie, but I can’t figure out how to update my profile pic with it… maybe that is not possible? You can view and save the current one to the iphone. I wish they had an option to update the photo with an iPhone pic!
yeah its the best but far from perfect. needs to be updated. you have to delete the app and redownload it (its free so no worries) if you change your default pic. Also under settings it has a sound effect option but i’ve never heard it ever make a sound effect? strange?? they also need different color themes! Defiantely the best interface though
Nice article!
I think the Twitter client landscape has really changed in 2010. New approaches and design strategies have yielded some remarkable new Twitter clients. One in particular is TvvitterBug. It eloquently combines simplicity with great functionality and entertaining animations to give you the most out of your Twitter experience.
TvvitterBug 1.3 is currently in the approval process for release on the App Store this week. This release brings together the culmination of all the features, capabilities, and functionality most sought after in an iPhone/iPod Twitter App, including:

2. Five (TvvitterBug exclusive) user-customizable Tweet Views.
3. Up to Five user accounts easily accessible from any view.
4. Persistent Tweets between launchings so you can view your tweets anytime.
5. Double-Tap Instant Update to easily and quickly refresh your tweet views on demand.
6. Built-in Photo capabilities to add photos directly to your tweets.
7. Built-in Translation support using any of the state-of-the-art web translation engines you choose, such as Google Translate, Yahoo Babelfish, or Promt Translator.
8. Built-in Web Access to view tweet embedded pictures and other URLs.
9. Editable User Profile, including setting a new Avatar picture.
10. Support for both “Fixed” and “Editable” Retweets – your choice.
11. Landscape support for both Views and Keyboard.
12. Automatic Language detection and display – great when you’re surfing!
13. Automatic last-state restore on subsequent launchings.
14. It also supports Lists, Spam reporting, deleting tweets, follow/unfollow, favorite/unfavorite, search of Message, From, and/or To in any timeline, Search and Trends timelines.
