The Billionth iPhone App Download Winner – Connor & Bump

Bump - LogoApple has announced the winner of the billionth iPhone app download winner. It goes to Connor Mulcahey, a 13 year old boy from Weston, CT. As the grand prize winner of this app countdown contest, Connor will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule and a MacBook Pro.

Not just Connor is the winner, the iPhone app that was downloaded by Connor also gains media coverage and the opportunity to appeared in the front page of the App download contest. Guess what’s the 1-billionth app downloaded on App Store? It’s Bump from Bump Technologies.

Honestly, I haven’t heard of this app before. Bump is an iPhone application that lets you easily to swap contact information in a secure way. Simply open the app on both iPhones and gently bump your hands together to exchange the contact. Once the contacts are exchanged, the contact information is automatically saved into your address book. Not sure how it works. Check out the video and see it in action:

Looks interesting, right? But there is a catch. The application requires internet connection for contact exchange. It works across EDGE, 3G or Wifi network. And, remember, before you can exchange contact, you need to create your contact inside Bump.

Bump is now free for download on App Store. You can download it via this direct iTunes link. In future, Bump will also offer a paid version that allows you to send photos and share multiple contacts. Probably with the debut of iPhone 3.0 this summer, it can even let you share contacts via Bluetooth.
