RipDev has updated its Icy, the alternative to Cydia, to v1.1.1 that comes a number of bug fixes and new features. If you’ve not heard of Icy, it’s a new installer application for jailbroken iPhone that lets you download and install Cydia applications.
The first version of Icy was released a few days ago. But from what I have tested, it was buggy and some of the readers claimed they even failed to launch Icy. As mentioned in RipDev blog, the new version of Icy is to address these issues with some enhancement:
- Add Recent Packages
- Support for More Info / Screenshots links in packages
- When there are package updates available, Updated tab will be shown by default in the Installed section
- Support Conflicts package specification
- Add custom Cydia header to requests so Icy is indistinguishable from Cydia from the repository point of view now
- Moved Install/Remove buttons to the toolbar
- Support for WinterBoard so Icy should be themeable now
- Some cosmetic and minor fixes
- UI Performance Improvement
- Support multiple languages
I have downloaded and installed the latest version. The updated version of Icy is much improved, though there are some stability issues. Put aside all the bugs, Icy works much faster than Cydia and the installation interface is much slick.

To download Icy, you can add a new source http://apt.ripdev.com in Cydia and then install Icy from the Packaging category. Icy is completely free for download.

Hey Simon quick question. I’m not getting any package updates via Icy for my installed packages but they show up in Cydia. Any idea why?
