As you may already know, iPhone 3.0 offers over 100 new features including copy & paste, MMS, voice recording, etc. This update is huge and you’ll definitely want to upgrade your iPhone once it’s released this summer.
One question for all jailbreak iPhone owner is: Is iPhone 3.0 jailbreakable?
No worry. iPhone Dev Team confirmed that iPhone 3.0 Beta can be jailbreakable for both iPhone 2G & 3G. It’s incredible how iPhone Dev Team does that in so short period of time.
But one thing the team stressed is that, DO NOT UPGRADE TO iPhone 3.0 directly for iPhone 3G when it is released. This will upgrade the baseband that your iPhone can no longer be unlocked using yellowsn0w:
And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.
For those who are new to iPhone 3.0, it is the next version of iPhone firmware. Presently, it’s still in beta and available for iPhone developers. Apple is target to release it publicly this summer.
I will keep you update on the news of iPhone 3.0, as well as, as jailbreak. Stay tuned.

When will we get iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak. Team let me know the date please.
@Prabahar, it shouldn’t be too far from the official release of iPhone 3.0. I believe it will be released to public some time in Jun/Jul. And, for the jailbreak solution, I believe iPhone Dev Team will also debut the jailbreak solution once iPhone 3.0 is released.
Thank you, Simon.
So Im currently on At&t (in the US) and have a iphone 8g 3G (firmware 2.2.1) and want to jailbreak my Iphone tonight if possible. Can I do this or should I hold off until the 3.0 OS is released and then jailbreak after that. Basically my question is can I upgrade to 3.0 when it comes out on Itunes if my phone is already jailbroke (sp) or will it revert back to the old iphone firmware?? im learning so much from this site. This is awesome!!!!
Is the jailbreak for 3.0 (final and not a beta) out yet? if so can somebody point me to it so i can update. I haev downloaded the ipsw for the 3.0 firmware but i can not seem to find the jail break for it. somebody update me please.
Pretty sure the 3.0 jailbreak from the iphone dev team should be out friday or so, follow this guy @Musclenerd
I’m still using an unlocked 1st gen iPhone with 2.1 (thanks, Simon) hope someone posts instructions to up upgrade to 3.0 software:)
i already have the 3g iphone which is jailbroken with the firmware 2.2.1, can i upgrade to firmware 3.0 without any problems or will a version of 3.0 firmware be developed for this
Ahhh, of course it’s breakable, like how my PowerBook breaks after 5 years. Arghhhh, still can’t get over it. Naah, I’m sure the Dev team could do it, but I’m sure as hell still enjoying my current update. Kudos for the update : )
Hi guys, just want to let ya know that I’ve managed to unlock my 2G iPhone running 3.0 update. If you are feeling adventurous head on to iPhone-Dev team’s blog and use the recently released redsn0w to unlock. BTW, the unlock will only jailbreak and sim-unlock 2G iPhones, not the 3G iPhones (you will need ultrasn0w for sim-unlock).
dear vince,
Do not Jailbreak your 3g iphone to OS 3.0 yet until The Dev Team releases Ultra Snow
