Just a few days ago, Cydia launched its Cydia store to let iPhone user to purchase paid application for jailbroken iPhone. This is the first App Store alternative since Apple’s App Store was launched last year. As of today, another App Store alternative called “Rock Your iPhone” is opened for business and target to sell all kinds of iPhone apps that can’t be found on Apple’s App Store.
Many iPhone users (probably you’re one of them) complain the official App Store does not allow a free trial for paid application. One of the “Rock Your Phone” goals is to get this fixed. All iPhone applications listed on RockYourPhone.com should provide 10-days free trial. Looks pretty good. Try before you buy. That’s what we want.
However, to use Rock Your Phone on your iPhone, you’ll need to first sign up an account on RockYourPhone.com. Followed by downloading a desktop client that is an installer for Rock Your iPhone. Next, launch the installer and connect your iPhone via USB cable. The installer will install Rock Your iPhone application on your iPhone. And, you can use it to access Rock Your iPhone store for downloading iPhone application.

The application works on both jailbroken and non-jailbroken iPhone. Though it’s not explicitly mentioned, the installer actually performs a jailbreak on iPhone in order to install the iPhone app of Rock Your Phone.
The Rock Your Phone application is still in beta. And the installer needs to tweak your iPhone (i.e. jailbreak from my guess) so as to install the store on iPhone. At the mean time, personally, I do not recommend you to use it as some users have reported that the installer is quite buggy and you may end up a installation failure that will need you to restore your iPhone. Added that, there are only five iPhone apps available for this new store. I suggest to wait for a while until Rock Your Phone is officially released.
But if you’re risk taker and always want to try something new, go ahead and download Rock Your Phone.
It seems like we’ll see more App Store alternatives rolling out. As an iPhone user, do you think you need another App Store, other than the official one?
