In mid-Jan, I reported that App Store already hosted 15,000 iPhone applications and achieved 500 million download milestone. As of today, according to 148Apps.com, there are over 26,000 iPhone application available in App Store and the number is still counting.
App Store is really a great success. By simple calculation, more than 10,000 applications are added to App Store in less than two months. 148Apps.com, which is a great site that keeps track of iPhone applications, shows that the number of iPhone Apps submitted to App Store each month is increasing. I put up a chart, so it gives you a better idea about the growth rate:

Further reviewing the stats, something look quite interesting here:
Do you know the total cost for buying all iPhone Apps in App Store?
At the time I write this post, there are a total of 26,375 iPhone application. To purchase all of them, you’ll need USD$73,305.66. Well, really quite a big number, not even in recession time. According to the statistics, the most pricey app is sold at USD$999. But most paid apps only cost only $0.99. If you’re interested about the price distribution, you may check out my earlier post about iPhone Price Distribution.
So, which category is the most popular?
You probably know that. Of course, it’s the games! It contributes to 20% of iPhone apps in App Store. And, entertainment takes up 14% of the apps.

It’s pretty amazing that books category contributes 10% of total iPhone Apps. O’Reilly also reported that book apps are the fastest growing category in iTunes App Store. Looks like more iPhone users are using the device as eBook reader.
Do you read book using iPhone? Which category of apps do you download most? Leave me comment and share your thought. I’d like to hear from you.
