As of today, App Store has nearly 25,000 iPhone applications available for download. I’m always curious about the price distribution of the iPhone apps. In mid-Jul 2008, Pinch Media has published a blog post about the price distribution of iPhone applications. At that time, there are merely 652 iPhone applications hosted on App Store. And, since then, however, I can’t find any latest update on the price distribution.
Anyhow, I’ve done a little research on that and put up some charts for anyone that may interest.
With Apptism, a website that tracks the activity of every iPhone app in App Store, here I put up a brief analysis on the price distribution of iPhone apps (based on the data collected on Mar 3).
Paid Apps vs Free App
Obviously, there are more paid apps in App Store than free apps. Only 24% of applications on App Store are free-of-charge. It’s not surprise iPhone developers are trying to make cash from it.

Paid Apps – Price Distribution
Not surprising, half of the paid apps are sold at the lowest end of the price range. And, around 77% of iPhone apps charges less than $2.99. Not all iPhone apps are cheap, some are really pricey. A total of 368 iPhone apps, which accounts for about 2% of paid apps, are with price tag over $20.0.
Below is the bar / pie chart for the price distribution of Paid Apps.
