iPhone Clippy Updated with Copy & Paste for Email & Safari

by Simon Ng on February 19, 2009

iPhone Clippy UpdatedThanks for our reader, Hank for submitting this news. iSpazio has been updated Clippy with a new version (0.95-4) and offers a couple of enhancements. For starter, Clippy is a system-wide copy & paste solution for iPhone that lets you copy & paste text across different applications.

New features includes:

  1. Change the way to launch copy & paste
  2. Copy text in email message
  3. Copy text for individual text message in a conversion

Launch Clippy by using “123″ button

If you have used the previous version of Clippy, you’ll notice a big change for this new version. Previously, Clippy adds copy & paste buttons in the numeric keyboard. Now, you won’t see any copy & paste buttons. Instead, to launch copy & paste, tap and hold the “123″ button in iPhone keyboard for a while. Clippy will bring up a menu that allows you to perform copy & paste.

Hassle-Free Way to Copy text in Email & Text Message

In previous version, there is no easy way to copy text in email. You may know the workaround — First forward the email, then select text to copy. By now, Clippy offers a hassle-free way to copy text in email. To copy text, just tap and hold the email message for a couple seconds. Clippy will pop up a menu for you to copy the text. That’s pretty cool!

How about copying text in text message? Clippy works pretty much the same way as copy text in email. But you can even copy individual text message in a conversation. As usual, tap and hold the text message you want to copy. Clippy displays the copy & paste menu for you to select.

Updated:
Clippy v0.95-5 is just released with bug fixes and support for copy & paste in Safari. Yes, you can now copy text in web page by tap & hold the web page text. The feature is experimental and I experience a number of crashes when invoking Clippy in Safari. But it’s a great step forward and expected to see improvement in stability when Clippy releases v1.0.

As always, Clippy only works for jailbroken iPhone. If you haven’t tried out Clippy, go ahead to Cydia and download it. Clippy is free and definitely worth to install.

How are you able to select only part of a text area? As in the first image? For one, I have never seen the “highlighted” text like that, and I can only get Clippy to copy everything or nothing. Any ideas?

When you single tap on the text area, you know the magnifying circle that shows? Double tap in the text area then drag over the area you want to highlight. Then hold down on the 123 and you can copy what you highlighted.

I think I like the old way of invoking the copy/paste/stack menu better than holding the 123 button… Anyone else?

@Hank,

Thanks, I actually figured this out AFTER I posted. I saw that written down but could not get it working, and then all of the sudden I guess my fingers actually got the message and I was able to get this working :-)

@brodie7838,

I only had the old version for like 2 days, but I believe both have their pluses and minuses. I think the old version with the blocks more transparent would be better than it was. I didn’t like how the box got in the way of your typing in txt messages.

Thanks again!

Iphone 3G 8gig Black firmware. 2.1, ( 5H11) Modem firmware 02.30.03 with only jailbreak.

Two issues I had…
1.) When trying to just copy down a picture from an e-mail, clippy intervened so it block the process of copying pictures from e-mail to my photo gallery . I’m not sure if that is supposed to work that way, but it crashes and definitely annoying.

2.) After uninstalling clippy, just after the respring, it crashes again and it went into safe mode.

Everything is back to normal without clippy. I rather do with out it for now til that is resolved. Any one else have this issue?
