LiveClock Brings Animated Clock Icon to iPhone

by Simon Ng on February 7, 2009

Did you ever notice the Clock icon is always pointing to 10:15? It’s static and never changes. Developer, Ryan Petrich, has developed a fun hack called LiveClock to bring an animated clock icon to iPhone. By installing LiveClock, the Clock icon will always show the current time with second hand moving continuously.

Earlier version of LiveClock requires you to have Winterboard installed. However, the latest version (i.e. 0.3) has removed this limitation. As long as you have a jailbroken iPhone, you can install this hack from Cydia.

If you like the animated icon of LiveWeather, probably you’ll also enjoy this live clock icon hack.

I attempted to add this and got an error netNB:Open nodename nor servmane provided, or not known. I’m excited to install this app, so maybe I’m just doing something wrong.

Does anyone else have this same issue?

@Bill, did you try to download LiveClock again? Sometime, a second attempt may work.

i installed this. it’s really cool to see the clock icon show the real time, instead of always at 10.15. but merely for aesthetics, nothing really functional. :)

@GeorgePk, LiveClock is from iSpazio source. Please check if you have already included this source repository in cydia.

@Simon Ng, it seems there is a problem with iSpazio source, once I launch Cydia I get some errors during reload, one of them is iSpazio. Other users reported the same elsewhere.

when i install liveclock, it does not remove the 10:15 picture
there are two sets of hands on the clock, one moving and one stationary
any idea how to fix this?

if you install LiveClock with 3.0 the two sets of hand can be corrected by adding a clock icon without hands to your theme folder using ssh – name the icon clock and place the icon in the icon folder of the theme you are using in winterboard – if you can’t open your clock app after installing LiveClock just touch the icon label “clock” right under the icon untell an update comes out.

For iPhone 3.0 without Winterboard: after installing LiveClock go to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app, get LiveClock.png (it’s the clock icon without needle), rename it to icon.png and use it to replace icon.png in var/stash/Applications/MobileTimer.app. Respring and it works.
