Jailbreak Guide Updated for iPhone Firmware 2.2.1

by Simon Ng on February 7, 2009

pwned pineappleAs you know, Apple recently has released firmware 2.2.1 for iPhone. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know I do not recommend the upgrade, particularly you’re already using firmware 2.2. Firmware 2.2.1 does not come with any big new feature and only focus on bug fixes.

However, not every reader are the same. As I read from your comments, some readers are considering the upgrade for whatever reasons. Some may find firmware 2.2 is not stable enough and want to upgrade to 2.2.1. Some may just trick by iTunes and accidentally upgrade the firmware.

Understand your need, today I have updated the jailbreak guide for iPhone 2G and 3G (PwnageTool) and incorporate procedures for firmware 2.2.1 jailbreak. You can refer to the complete jailbreak guide for firmware 2.2.1:

For iPhone 3G jailbreak guide using QuickPwn, I will soon post the update for firmware 2.2.1. Stay Tuned.

2.2.1 is definitely not worth the upgrading, the efforts of re-unlocking and re-jailbreaking the phone, and the possible risk of “bricking” the phone. analogous to renovating your whole house just to match the colour of your tiny new vase (risking collapse of the house)! just wait for a major firmware release.

I have an iPhone version 2.1. I jailbroke the phone, but have exerienced frequent dropped calls and a miserable battery life. Should I (is it possible to) upgrade to 2.2 firmware? How? Thanks.

Thank you Simon. I forgot to say that my phone is 3G, not 2G. Does that make a difference? Thanks for your help and have a nice day.
