Weather Icon Hack: Displays Live Weather Information on iPhone

by Simon Ng on January 30, 2009

The Weather application on iPhone is one of my frequently-used applications. This is a great application that shows me the live weather information. Normally, the weather icon is a static image and you tap on the weather icon to gain access to live weather information.

Would it be great if the weather icon dynamically shows you the live weather information? David Ashman, an iPhone developer, has developed a tweak called “WeatherIcon” that puts live weather information on the weather icon. With this hack, as you can see in the below screenshots, the weather icon is no longer static but shows you the actual weather and temperature (cloudy icon on the left image and sunny icon on the right image).

The WeatherIcon hack is designed for jailbroken iPhone and currently available on Cydia. To use WeatherIcon, you’ll have Winterboard installed. By enabling both “Weather Icon” and “Weather Icon Background” in Winterboard, you’ll see the “live” weather icon on iPhone home screen.

WeatherIcon is completely free. So, if you want to have a quick access to weather information, this hack will probably work for you.

The temp shows a ‘?’ and won’t change, I’ve tried downloading the other 2 weathericons so as to activate it and checked the location, but it still won’t work. Does anybody have a step by step guide for me?

Does not work!! All I get is a “?” for the temp and in Winterboard, Lockinfo WeatherIcon is the only thing that shows up. I am using Cydia 1.0.2953-59 and 3.0 on iphone

What is the theme you’re using on the right (WeatherIcon – Sunny)? It’s nice.

It’s a Winterboard theme called “Deep”.
