iPhone Clippy Updated: SMS Copy & Paste and Clipboard Stack Feature

by Simon Ng on January 28, 2009

Clippy, the Copy & Paste solution for iPhone, has just put up an update (v0.93) on Cydia. The update comes with a number of enhancements and improvements:

  1. Copy & Paste for SMS – For the previous version, Clippy does not let you to copy SMS directly. Now, when you read the text messge, double-tap on it and the whole message will be copied to the clipboard.
  2. Clipboard Stack Feature – Clippy finally saves a history of your text copy in clipboard. You can access via the Stack button
  3. Improved Copy & Paste buttons – You’ll find two new buttons – Stack & Close in the Copy & Paste bar. Use the stack button to access the clipboard and close to hide the Copy & Paste bar.
  4. Improved Text Selection Performance

In this updated version, some of the limitations are not resolved. Say, you cannot select text in web pages or email message. As Clippy is still in beta version, hope it will soon come out a complete solution of Copy & Paste. To install the update, you can download Clippy for free via Cydia.

But now the text selection (when editing text in notes for example) doesn’t work any longer.
I think the new version has a bug.

@Gil, you can quickly tap twice and then hold to select the text. It works for me.

the updated version is nice, but I still like hclipboard better..Clippy would be my choice of use if it had a permanent stack, and a temporary stack..I dont like everything bundled all into one stack.

Clippy no longer works. 0.94 says beta expired, upgrade. When downloading 0.95, same thing. What gives?

Update… developer has released v 0.95-4. Now works. There is a clippy search plugin.. please read the message board about clippy search before using. Otherwise nice to see a quick response from the dev for clippy. Strong work!!

Another update:

Althought the update works, there have been some changes. The copy paste field that displayed after hitting 123 is gone. You know have to press and hold 123. After you copy something, after hitting 123 the only way to paste is by selecting stacks. (However if you enter text in the SMS window and copy that then hit 123, paste option comes up, but that seems useless) Also mail acts strange. When you reply to mail and hit 123 to paste in something, it tries to copy the entire thread and offers to copy or add to stacks. The double tap feature still works to highlight text in notes, mail and the SMS window where entering a message. Again read the message boards to see what trouble people are having before updating this or even future versions. The developer does respond to emails if you have questions. (If you google clippy it’s the third link that has a good message board and also on cydia, where you download Clippy in the more information tab will take you to another message board)
