Winterboard Theme: PerfectStorm transforms your iPhone into Blackberry Storm

by Simon Ng on January 18, 2009

If you’re bored with your current Winterboard theme, you may give a shot on PerfectStorm. It’s a cool theme that makes your iPhone look like Blackberry Storm. The designer of PerfectStorm theme has demonstrated the power of Winterboard to the full. Unlike most of Winterboard themes that only modify the iPhone icons and wallpaper, PerfectStorm theme comes with other changes that makes your iPhone look really like Blackberry:

  • Lockscreen is changed. Just tap (not slide) to unlock
  • Calculator theme is changed too
  • iPod’s Media Player skin also changes
  • Camera skin is changed
  • So as the Dialer
  • Safari skin
  • And most importantly, the keyboard

As always, to use the Perfect Storm theme, you need to first jailbreak your iPhone. You can download the theme from Cydia (Simply search for “Perfect Storm”) for free. After installation, launch Winterboard and enable the theme. If you’re new to Winterboard, check out how you can use it here.

To best work with Perfect Storm theme, it’s recommended to install iBlank (create blank icon) and notifier via Cydia.

A few screenshots to show you what Perform Theme will bring to you… Probably you’ll like this theme.

Cool, right? Do you like Perform Storm theme? Leave comment and let us know.

I’ve been using this for weeks. The problems I have that you might not have are:
1. Weather icon doesn’t work for me. So I’m still stuck with the standard weather icon. I don’t really know what causes this problem. Re-install might work.
2. The date in the top-middle of the screen doesn’t automatically update at midnight, except if I manually restart the phone.
3. It appears that the theme eats lots of memory on my phone.

Seeing too many problems I have, I still like the way it looks and it’s just different. I like the layout, especially for the sms, safari and calculator skins. However the lockscreen is ugly.

Anyway, nice write up, Simon.

Is it possible to just install parts of the theme? I just want the keyboard.

@Fernando

I had been trying to update my perfect storm too just now. I got the same error download. But I kept trying and finally managed to get it downloaded right.

@Simon

The 1.1 update fixed my weather icon and added few other icons as well.

The keyboard is terrible. Try writing this: I am supposed to try and understand this?

Not possible.

I really like the theme! But, Does anyone know where I can find more icons ( I have about 20 unthemed :-( )? Or, do I just have to wait for the creator to release an update?

I had my iphone hacked 2.x and used the instructions on this site to go back to native mode. But I noticed after I did that, a winterboard themed app that had “ghost” icons (for the blackberry theme), that allowed for the top row of the main springboard page to show the big time, were left afterwards. Now I have a factory phone with these “ghost” or invisible icons that won’t go away and when accidently touched take me to dezign999.com. My question is, how do I remove these?! Sorry for the post here but could find a way to contact directly and couldn’t find information online. Thanks!

I really need the 1.0 theme. The icons refuse to line up in the 2.0 theme

Ive been researching themes for the past month from what ive found this is in the top 3 (out of about 100.) However, my calendar icon is blank for the date. Anyone know a fix?

And yea the lock screen is ugly, I really dont want to see that message bubble every time I look at my phone, it is not needed.

@elie,

Yes, to use Perfectstorm theme, you need to jailbreak your iPhone. By jailbreaking, you can then install Winterboard and PerfectStorm theme.

I downloaded it and the SMS app doesn’t change. Neither does the keyboard… When I tap the lock screen it doesn’t unlock. It requires VERY LITTLE motion to unlock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :]

Yeah, what’s up with the keyboard not working, and the calendar and sms icons? I’m using an iPhone 3G running jailbroken 3.1.2 software. Hopefully a new update is due out soon because I love this BB interface on my iPhone. Otherwise it’s a GREAT theme!
