Five Icon Dock Hack: Add one more dock icon for iPhone

by Simon Ng on January 15, 2009

Previously, I’ve talked about a hack that lets you add the fifth icon column on iPhone Springboard. Some readers mentioned if we can add one more icons to the dock, which by default can only hold four most-frequently-access application icons such as Phone and Safari.

Jay Freeman, the creator of Cydia, has developed a hack to allow any jailbreak iPhone to put the fifth icon in the dock. You can download and install the hack via Cydia.

After installation, you can hold the favorite application icons and then drag it to the dock. That’s it. And, it looks pretty great when it’s paired with Five Column Icon hack.

Awesome!! Thanks for letting me know about these tweaks!

I wanted to have 5 frequently-used apps in my dock (Phone, Messages, Camera, Flashlight, and Safari), but until now I’ve been forced to stick one of them on my 1st page of icons instead. This worked okay when double-home took me there, but now that I’ve replaced that action with Pro Switcher, it was less convenient to launch that 5th item. Now it’s perfect!

Apple should really make 5 the default maximum. This is just one more tweak that makes jailbreaking indispensable.

Sounds nice, except that I can’t drag any icons onto the dock. They just float over and when I let go, they go back to the springboard. I also cannot reinstall or uninstall five icon dock program. 1st gen iphone and 2.2 os.
