Five Column Springboard: Add Extra Column to iPhone Home Screen

by Simon Ng on January 13, 2009

As you install more applications on iPhone, you may hit the nine pages limit of iPhone. Developer, Yanik Magnan, has recently developed a hack to enable five column springboard (or FCSB). This adds an extra column of icons to iPhone springboard, so you can load even more applications on iPhone.

The five column springboard hack is still in development. But as I tested on firmware 2.2, it works pretty good already. If you can’t wait for the formal release, you can follow the procedures to install it.

How to Install Five Column Springboard

1. Before you install five column springboard, make sure you have installed the following required packages. All packages can be download and installed via Cydia:

  • MobileSubstrate
  • Ruby
  • MobileTerminal
  • Erica Utilities

2. Next, download fcsb-054.deb

3. Transfer this file to iPhone using SSH (or DiskAid) and put it under “/private/var/mobile”.

4. Launch MobileTerminal application and type “su root”

5. Then type “alpine” for password. Followed by typing “dpkg -i fcsb-054.deb”

6. Respring or reboot your iPhone

To uninstall five column springboard, you can remove it using Cydia.

@turaif, the five column springboard is now available via cydia. Launch cydia and search for “Five-Column Springboard” and install it directly.

You don’t need to do all this now; just search in cydia “five” and you will immediately see Five Icon Dock, Five Column Springboard, and Five iRows. For the ultimate iPhone! =)

Hi! Thanks for quick reply.

I’m sorry to be a pain but calendar, miss calls, emails and sms on lock screen didn’t displayed before that dab file was installed and activited. I am a bit confused. I know this particular topic is to make 5 columns icons but what about that DAB file please.

Thanks ever so much.
