Apple has just released Mac OS X 10.5.6. Come together with numerous bug fixes, the update also breaks DFU mode for both iPhone and iPod Touch, as reported by iSpazio. That said, with 10.5.6 Mac OS update, your Mac will no longer recognize the iPhone in DFU mode.
Putting the iPhone into DFU mode is a critical step in both jailbreak and unlock process. That means, you cannot jailbreak iPhone on this OS update.
So, for Mac users, please hold off the update if you want to jailbreak or unlock your iPhone. I’ll keep you update on this issue. Stay tuned.
Update:
iPhone Dev Team has proposed a number of possible fixes for the DFU problem on Mac OS X 10.5.6:
1. Replace the following plugin kexts from within IOUSBFamily.kext with the ones from 10.5.5 and then rebuild kextcache (if you don’t understand this, then you shouldn’t attempt it!)
/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBHub.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBCompositeDriver.kext
2. Use a USB hub in-between the DFU device and the Mac and insert/reinsert the iPhone’s USB cable.
3. Use a PwnageTool created .ipsw on Windows!
Even though the fixes may work, my personal recommendation is to hold off the upgrade of 10.5.6 until a permanent fix is developed.
